  1. first, congratulations! second, I have no advice to give regarding your prospective schools but I'm sure someone else eventually will. HOWEVER, until then no need to spam the forum with multiple posts of the same question.
  2. yeaaah! congratulations! the campus is awesome and I really enjoyed my visit but it was just not the right program for me. hopefully the funding works out for you!

yea. not interested in pool parties.. spyglass looks nice but a little bit towards the higher end of my budget (I'm specifically looking for a 1br in the 500-650 range). I'll put it on my list though for places to check out. I saw som craigslist ads for apartments in the oaks condominum and hawthorne reserve... would you happen to know anything about either of those? regardless thanks for the input! really helps a lot!

thanks for the recs! I'm also looking at apartments for the fall.. do you know anything about verdant cove (seems like it was remodeled and renamed recently?), towne parc, point west, or williamsburg village? I do want access to a pool but also quiet and not undergrad dominated.
  5. I agree. go where you want to go and don't worry about 10k. it's really not going to make it or break it in the future. however, if money is a big priority to you, I'd say go to Davis. you just have to decide what your priorities are. go where your heart desires or where you will feel more financially secure. either way I don't think you can go wrong. or flip a coin! seriously. it works. you will know.
  6. I totally get it. I even had a professor email and call me this morning to try to get me to still go there even though I declined and said I had accepted another offer.. just makes it so much harder! I already committed! why couldn't you try this hard a little earlier?! the main reason I declined there was financial so when she's now asking me for another 24h to see if they can get funding it's hard! on the other hand, they've known about my situation for over a week and had plenty of time to get back to me regarding funding.. seriously.. I just want to feel a hundred percent sure I made the right choice!
  7. hey all! I just decided to attend UF as well if anyone have any apartment complexes to recommend let me know! or know anything about towne parc apartments or verdant cove? I get the sense that verdant cove was recentely renovated (and renamed?) so it doesn't have any reviews. hopefully I can make it down there and check it out soon!
  8. made my decision as well - florida it is! it was tough but in the end I went for the place with most funding and where I'd rather live for the next 3 years.. my overall experience is that it's easy to get caught up in everything and get "seduced" by certain programs for various reasons but in the end you just have to consider what's most important to you. I had my heart set on vcu for a long time but it didn't work out and I'm sure it's for a reason
  9. yea, thats pretty shitty but however cliche it may sound.. everything happens for a reason!
  10. damn. I'm sorry. it may be a long shot but what if you contact on of the schools you declined? when I declined one school's offer they said specifically to contact them "if the program I selected didn't meet my expectations". I guess you just have to be very sincere about it and explain your situation and that you regret declining their offer initially. I have no experience with this but what do you have to lose really?
  11. congrats!! that is awesome! wish I could make up my mind soon so I'd have this over with.. did you apply to VCU by any chance?
  12. I just declined my offer from WashU. I don't know how their waitlist works but maybe you will hear soon!
  13. I'm with you on that one... got ONE week! no idea what to do. obviosuly I'm not complaining that I have choices. very happy and grateful for that but I can't visit the schools and can't figure out what "feels" right.. sure, I could go for the money but the difference is only like $2000/year. Arizona seems like the better photo program on paper (and obviously in rankings) but I'm weirdly drawn to Florida and got a good feeling about it early on when talking to the faculty there, although they do very different work than I.. but I don't know if I got that feeling simply because I didn't think the other programs were options then and just tried to get my mind set on it. damn. I'm confused haha. this whole process messes with your head a little for sure. I really REALLY wish I'd get off the waitlist at VCU but they only take 5 so I'm going to pretend it's not an option.
  14. ah ok. I don't think I did since I'm an international student. I have lived in Indiana for the past 5 years though so it's kind of bs. but since I'm a "non-immigrant alien" I'm not eligble for residency (I think that's how it works)
  15. do you have any other offers that you are considering that offer better funding? the way I recently went about it was being open and honest about my situation and that although I'm very interested in X school, it's not feasible for me financially and I have to consider other offers. just be sincere and acknowledge that you don't want money to be the deciding factor but that's unfortunately the case.. and instead of directly asking for more money you can ask if there are any additional funding opportunities or work positions you can apply for to still make it work since X school is your top choice or something like that. however, if you don't have other financially better offers that you are considering I wouldn't lie obviously.. I also get the sense that it helps if you contact the director of your specific program or a professor that you have been in contact with throughout the process as opposed to financial aid since they have a better sense of who you are and obviously want you in their program. they will probably then refer you to someone else but I think it's good to have someone vouch for you. but I'm no expert on the grad admission/funding process by any means! just speaking from my own experience.
  16. agreed! it's almost more than my private liberal arts undergrad! even with the 3500/year fellowship I'd need to borrow 40k. just seems odd to me that all these other schools are offering tutition waivers while they are charging out of state tuition (for me at least) and offering funding to cover no more than 20%. it's just not feasible for me at all and they are not even close to competing to some other state school programs in terms of funding. is it because its such a new program you think?
  17. don't get me wrong- I love indiana! haha I'm still very much considering herron due to the fact that I feel pretty "invested" in Indiana. I'm originally from Sweden and came here as an international student but little did I know that I was going to fall in love with a good ole country boy haha. his family lives in indy and that's very much where he sees himself in the future due to his profession so I could potentially see myself here as well. so herron would be good if I do want to stay in this area but it doesn't have the reputation as some of the other schools (yet). BUUUUT the funding is not so good. with out of state tuition I'd have to shell out another 40k+. so I can't justify that compared to my other offers simply because of its location close to my bf. however, they did call me up today after I inquired about the fellowship 2nd semester (and potential for more funding) and they were going to see what they could do! he asked about my other offers so they know that there is a slim chance unless they can come up with a lot more to make it worth it. we shall see........... they seem very accomodating though and it's nice that they are trying to really get me there and make it work as opposed to another unnamed school have you visited herron btw?
  18. finally got notified that I'm waitlisted at VCU. super disappointed since I really wanted to go there and it seems like such a great fit. however, better than rejection and there is still hope! so fingers crossed someone chooses to go elsewhere
  19. aaaaah! finally get the meaning behind this freak-out forum... I was a nervous wreck waiting to hear back from schools but now I'm even more anxious as everything is becoming more "real" and I actually have to make a decision. I went into the admission process with the mindset that I probably wouldn't get in and that it would be good practice for next years applications SO now that I actually have some pretty great offers I have NO IDEA what to do. it doesn't help that my boyfriend of 3 years will be in saint louis for the next 3 years for his schooling and although he's being supportive and wants me to "do what makes me happy" its evident that me deciding to head out west or down south for 3 years could be a major blow to our relationship. it just sucks that I have to be the "bad guy" (choosing school over him)... but it's also not that I want to go and he doesn't want me to-- part of me doesn't want to go either because I don't want to move that far away from him and at the same time the schools closers are not feasible financially or a good fit/the program I want to go to. BUT this is my dream! ya know... I know noone will be able to tell me what to do but it would be kind of nice if I didn't have to choose. can't I have it all?
  20. any news arsenic? I'm considering asking for more funding from 2 schools but I'm not sure how to go about it. How long/detailed was your letter and did you mention other offers?
  21. ANY news on VCU? 2 weeks ago (3-4 weeks after initial interview) they said a decision was coming "soon". feeling slightly stressed as I need to make a decision.. ugh. in the meantime, what do you guys think of University of Florida? it's my best option financially.
  22. I got an email from Herron photo where she mentioned that they had heard back from two students so far.. I didn't think the funding was too great for me. with out of state tuition I need to come up with 45k.. so it doesn't seem like I'll be going there. especially with my offer from Florida! seems like a great program though and I may still go for a visit.
  23. congrats! I got the same call/info from grad admissions today although I received a call last week from photo specifically too. can't wait to hear what they have to offer
  24. what's up with schools asking where they rank on my list of choices? before I've even heard about funding.. (hey that actually determines a lot!) I guess just to gauge my interest but I don't know. it just caught me off guard. like what am I supposed to say? tell them all they are my top choice? haha I try to be somewhat honest and just say it's among my choices or "up there" and that I'm trying to gather all information before I make a decision. just curious what their motive is by asking? does my response change anything?
  25. has anyone heard from VCU photo? it will be 2 weeks since my interview tomorrow and I'm getting anxious! the more time that goes by the more I think it's a rejection but I guess there's still hope if no one has heard?
