  1. We are dealing with similar issues. Unbelievable.
  2. Congratulations to you! 8 acceptances. Where will you be headed in the fall?! And CQE, I did apply for income contingent. The payments are still enormous.
  3. IBR is not granted to everyone. I had undergraduate loans and an income that should have been on an IBR plan. I did not get approved. Be very careful about taking on debt. Avoid it at all costs because it will not be easy at all. Most people in public service end up paying their loans in ten years and the forgiveness ends up being for very little money. Please read up on debt management and reasonable amounts of debt. No aspiring teacher should acquire all this debt since in most parts of the country the salary is very low. It looks all nice and glossy now, but don't set yourself up for somethig that could become the biggest financial burden you have.
  4. Penn is very well respected in Higher Ed. You won't make a wrong choice though.
  5. When I first heard (or was first supposed to hear) from Berkeley, I heard directly from the POI, not from the department. It may just be that some people are more on the ball than others.
  6. $1000 per room is too expensive; there are cheaper (and equally as safe, if not safer) parts of Cambridge. Any agent whose territory is Harvard Square will inflate prices because they know people will pay anything to live close to campus. There's a great public transportation system, and there are apartments in walking distance in Allston, that would cost you HALF of that.
  7. Anyone headed to Berkeley? Potentially moving west from the northeast--the lack of snow is a definite sell!
  8. Admitted (after an EdD rejection...)
  9. Congratulations! Remember Peabody is the #1 school in the country. You've done well if you can graduate from there loan-free. I hope you get into HGSE... you deserve it, even if you won't attend. Also, on a side-note, the GIFs are delaying my page loads. I agree that they're funny, but at a point, it becomes too much.
  10. I contacted the associate of admissions at the early deadline school to request an extension, detailing that I haven't received all of the fellowship or admission offers yet. I also told them that I am still waiting to hear from two schools. She spoke with her boss, who told her there was "nothing they could do" for me, and that they were "sure it was the offer that made the most sense." I contacted the two schools I haven't heard from, and all I could get out of them was, "You will hear soon." All of my schools are CGS schools, by the way. I don't want to lose money by committing to a school too early, and I'm starting to think that's what will happen.
  11. I have run into a terrible (and maybe terribly lucky?) predicament in which an institution has requested an early response to their offer (mid-March). I have three offers thus far, all funded. However, the only institution that has offered a very clearly detailed package is also the one requesting a response. I am still waiting to hear from two schools, and the institution with the great (and very detailed) financial package is aware that I will not be hearing from at least one school until after the mid-March deadline. I met with the adviser and she was pretty explicit about purposely setting the early deadline to require me to "commit" early, knowing that another school I am considering (and haven't yet heard from) will be releasing decisions sometime after mid-March. The POI at the other school is doing several long-term research projects with my would-be adviser at the early deadline school. I requested an extension, but they weren't very willing to budge. The language used isn't worth quoting, but they basically indicated that it was where I belonged. Now, I am going on a post-admissions trip and get back on the same day that this other school wants a decision. Is there anything I can do to ensure that I have all of my offers on the table before making a decision? I had an interview with another school (a great school), and I am waiting to hear how that went. I do not have all of the information necessary to make an informed decision, and I really need to consider finances (above everything else) before making a commitment. I like all of my offers, and I also was pretty happy with all of the schools I applied to, but at the end of the day, I want to be able to compare my offers before I make a decision. Is there anything I can do about this situation? All schools are on the CGS list, but the CGS list (as I understand it) is for fellowship decisions, not for admissions offers.
  12. 2 weeks to make a decision? um...

April 15 is almost 5 weeks away!

  13. LOL @ hgse_admissions @CRUMBstheword We are planning to release all decisions by 3.25.2013. You'll hear back earlier if possible. 4 hours ago · reply · retweet · favorite Read more: http://www.gse.harvard.edu/admissions/index.html#ixzz2MtRexCEG
  14. At this point, I would bank on Friday being the decision date. They can close offices at 5:00 and even if you do call, nobody will answer...
  15. Maybe today is just a day too early. It could have all to do with how soon this is compared to other years...
