  1. Regarding umbrellas in Vancouver I will have to respectfully disagree with TakeruK. Everyone I know gets a lot of mileage out of their umbrella. I would say that the rain in Vancouver, though not as inclement as, say the "East coast" can get to downright torrential levels at times. Regarding migraines, my mom gets them and she has lived in Vancouver as well as several locations in the interior of BC and she said there was no difference in the number she got in Vancouver vs. elsewhere, however, I suppose it all depends on what triggers your migraines, so perhaps for her weather just isn't a factor.
  2. Of course they do. According to the published percentiles 4% of GRE writers get a 5.0, 3% get a 5.5, and 1% get a 6.0.
  3. I just wrote my second revised GRE today and I was significantly more relaxed going into it. Not to say that I was completely without anxiety...but the first time I could barely function I was so nervous. My raw scores for quant and verbal have not changed much (from 167 to 166 verbal and from 161 to 162 quant). It's the writing score I really want to improve though. I intended to study a lot for the second go-round...but didn't end up doing so. I did a bit of math cramming (went through my Baron's book and re-read all the parts I had highlighted the first time and re-did all of the questions I had gotten wrong the first time) and then I read over all of the vocab I had learned for my first GRE. In addition I did about 8 practice essays straight off the topic pool on ETS's website and focused on completing them under the time-limit as that was my issue the first go-round. As others have said I did little to no studying in the 2 days prior to the exam. For some reason I just felt like I had done what I could. The parts I panicked on the most the first time around were the essays and one of the math sections when I knew I didn't have enough time to complete all of the questions. Well, I felt at ease writing the essays because I knew I could make the time-limit this time, and once again, I couldn't complete one of the math sections (I missed about 4 questions) but I didn't worry too much since I knew from previous experience that I could still score well despite that. I hope this sets your mind at ease. It was still stressful, but much less so!
  4. No, it couldn't have been experimental because I only had 2 verbal sections.
  5. Has any ever written the GRE a second time and had the same questions show up? In my first verbal section there were 2 writing passages that were identical to my previous sitting of the exam. (I wrote the exams about 2 months apart from one another.) And the questions they asked were the same too. I was really surprised as I assumed that their question pool would be large. Just curious if this is common?
  6. I am applying to a highly competitive program in a very specialized field. I want the best possible chances of getting in this year as I am already a mature student (31) and am eager to get into my professional field of choice as soon as possible. So, I'm wondering, is there any downside to applying to a lot of schools? I've short-listed the possibilities to about 15 schools. Is it possible that I'm casting too wide a net?
  7. RE: no institutions listed I thought the same thing when I first went on ETS to check my scores. A couple of days later the institutions showed up. Still waiting (not so patiently) on the official scores though. Congrats! Your scores are AMAZING!
  8. If travel is at all an option I'd definitely recommend it. Travelling is great for reinvigorating the spirit and discovering untapped passions. To be honest, this is the first thing that came to my mind while reading your post. If you feel comfortable doing so it really couldn't hurt to talk to a doctor to get a professional opinion.
