  1. Can the people who posted in the results section that they got interview invites for American University today PM me their POI's??? Thank you!!!
  2. Just to let everyone know who are still waiting to hear from DC area schools American, Catholic, UMD, Mason, etc. are all closed today for a SNOW day!!!! So my guess is we will not be hearing anything more from them today. I know American told me last week that they were going to finish sending out interview invites THIS week, but who knows now.
  3. If you applied to UMD's Clinical program here's your answer: "All applications are reviewed by at least one faculty member regardless of how low or high you score on the GRE or your GPA. However, the Clinical Program at Maryland is highly competitive......" Here's the link https://www.dropbox.com/s/42ogv4xxo1zu0rs/Frequently%20Asked%20Questions.pdf I hope that helps ease some nerves!!! Good luck! Also, the psychology department FAQ page says something along the same lines which applies to all of the programs (counseling, etc.)
  4. I've read a lot about the importance of looking at APA internship matching rates when deciding on schools. I personally have already applied and the schools that fit well with my interests all have very high match rates. Anyway, I am still interested in why this is such an important factor when deciding on where to apply to schools. The schools that have very low APA match rates are mostly the freestanding PsyD programs (correct me if I am wrong), which accept significantly more applicants when compared to PhD programs, and those students, on average, have lower scores/less research experience etc. So, if you are a strong student, with good experiences and are motivated to get hours and whatever else is needed to get into an APA internship site, will those people still have a harder time getting an APA internship because of the school they attend? Is it that the match rates are low due to the quality of students? Or is it the quality of the program aka poor training/supervision? Or is it the stigma attached to the freestanding programs? I personally have worked with PsyD's doing research and clinical work and I found them to be just as good as the PhD's in the department. On another note, what are other people doing to get through the wait to hear back from schools?? I check this site way too many times every day! Good luck to everyone! I imagine many of us will be crossing paths soon.
  5. I suggest you look through this thread for funded masters programs: Good luck!
  6. I am applying to Clinical Psychology PhD programs (and possibly one or two PsyD's) for Fall 2014!!! When are people starting to contact professors for letters of recommendation and potential POI's to see if they are taking students?
  7. Thanks Lypiphera for your reply! I don't have any publications, but I'll definitely try to get in at least one poster presentation. I am planning on taking the GRE subject test, which I know is offered next month but I am not ready to take it then, so hopefully I'll prepare over the summer and take it when it's offered in the fall. Should I retake the GRE or focus on getting in more research? (159 quant, 156 verbal) Any thoughts on applying to the same school where I am currently doing my masters? Should I tell my professors I want to get into their PhD program or will that put my professors in an uncomfortable position?
  8. My goal is to get my PhD in Clinical Psych in order to do both clinical work and research. I graduated undergrad this past December, with a few psychology courses, but my degree was in International Relations. Currently, I am in my first semester of a MA program in general psychology and REALLY want to start a PhD program in Fall 2014. I would love some advice on how to better my application in order to increase my chances of admission! Undergrad GPA 3.6 (Psych GPA 3.8, only took a few classes; Intro, Abnormal, Counseling, Stats). GRE: Quant 159, Verbal 156. (Retaking over the summer to raise these scores). I'm still in my first semester of the Masters but I am expecting all A's or one A- for my current courses, and hope to keep that up next semester! I am a RA in a professors lab doing research with two of the clinical PhD students. Joining another lab with a second professor which will start this summer, and has the potential to co-author papers! I have an interview for a RA position at Children's National Hospital which will be part time over the summer and continue into the school year (crossing my fingers I get the position!!). I volunteer at a suicide hotline and work part-time doing ABA therapy with children on the Autism spectrum. I know that research is an extremely important aspect of the application, and I am trying my best to get more research experience but have none from my undergrad. Will one year of research experience (From this past January 2013 to Jan 2014 around when the apps are due) be enough to get into a Clinical Psych program? I am not looking at prestigious programs, as I have found many professors whom I love their work and am applying to the schools they are at. Ideally I would get into the PhD program at the school that I am doing my Masters at and continue working with the professors that I am with now, but their program is very competitive (as are most) and I am not sure if it is frowned upon or not to go from a masters to a doctoral program within the same school, thoughts?? Sorry for the long post!! Thanks in advance for reading this!!!
  9. I submitted my application in the middle of October, and my GRE scores were sent oct 10th. Apparently the school has still not received my scores! ETS said they should have received them already. The admissions department said they received GRE scores from oct 17th and on today, so mine should already have been there. My question is, should I contact the department, or head of the program, to notify them that I applied and am having problems with my GRE score report? (Also, admission is on a rolling basis.) Should I just wait it out? I don't want the department to think I am being pushy, but it seems like ETS or the school has made some mistake and it may impact if I am admitted. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for answering my question, I found out two schools I'm applying to will take almost all of the masters credits! The only concern that I have is if a professor dislikes me for whatever reason from MA program and that person is on the admissions committee..... Do you know if they read applications with the persons name or is it common to give each application a number to prevent biased decisions?
  11. Waiting for my GRE scores to arrive at the school I applied to! The only thing that is missing from my application. My app has been done for two weeks but it is listed as incomplete (and therefore not reviewed at all). I sent my GRE scores oct 10, ETS said they should have been there already. Anyone else have issues with GRE score reports?? I would love for the process to be over. Waiting to hear back is going to be difficult. Good luck everyone!
  12. @psychkita you said in a previous post that "you'll be on the road to a Ph. D (especially if you go to a school you may potentially want your PhD from)". For people who need more experience/courses before applying to a PhD program and want to take the masters route, will doing your masters at the school you want to get your PhD actually increase your chances of admission? I am applying to masters programs, and I see that @Odd is contemplating a masters. Could you expand on what you said before? If I don't get near perfect grades in their masters program would that ruin my chances of getting into their PhD program? Thank you!
  13. I am going to apply to a few places but Catholic is my top choice and they have spring admissions, so I'll submit that application before all the others which start in the fall. My GRE scores are roughly a 750Q and 550V on the old scale, if that helps.
  14. They only post the stats for their PhD program.... but thanks for replying!
