  1. This is the NYC program: http://www.teachnycprograms.net/getpage.php?page_id=60 There are a few other programs, including a loan forgiveness. http://www.teachnycprograms.net/ For the scholarship, you agree to work for a NYC public school for 2 years for every year of school. I went to an info session for it at the UFT (well, it was for the western kentucky distance pgm but they also talked about the scholarship program) and the # of scholarships they give depends on how much $ is available and also the mix of schools - so if they award to all Columbia or NYU for example there will not be as many people receiving scholarships. The DOE's budget situation is dire, to put it mildly, so not sure how many will be awarded this year. Also I have heard that they really prefer bilingual (spanish). Here is info on the federal public interest loan forgiveness program http://www.studentaid.ed.gov/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/charts/public-service Its really confusing! A lot of details and conditions. It only cancels federal student loans, not private loans. I have about $20k left in law school loans and I do not particularly want to take out more but I think I will have to. I think that federal loans usually have significantly lower interest rate than private, and there are a lot of different ways to structure your payments so that you can pay a lot or a little each month.
  2. Hi you might also want to check the CUNYs - Brooklyn and I think Lehman allow you to take their speech classes as a non-matric/post-bacc. I am not sure what is offered over the summer, however, and they are seated classes.
  3. Ohh I love all of her books. Thanks for the suggestion!
  4. YAAHHH congrats!!!!! I was getting so irritated on your behalf that USF and UVA could not get it together. You must be so relieved and EXCITED!
  5. Agree. I hate the waiting...
  6. Looks like Hunter started notifying accd to the results page. Let the obsessive F5-ing commence...
  7. The ASHA website says should include physics or chemistry, so hopefully if the course has some physics or chemistry in it (like astronomy) it would count. What a pain. I did discover self-paced online courses from UT Austin when I was looking for a statistics class http://www.utexas.edu/ce/uex/online/ http://courses.webhost.utexas.edu/dec/college/searchcollege.cfmhttp://courses.webhost.utexas.edu/dec/college/searchcollege.cfm There is one bio and several physics classes, and only $550 per class!
  8. o Anyone who has heard from SUNY New Paltz, because my mom is as anxious as i am she checks this site to see if anyone has heard from my schools yet and at like midnight last night new posts for New Paltz came up and she woke me out of a dead sleep to check my email/website and no dice......So I haven't heard back yet, when I called earlier this week they said everyone would be notified by the end of March. What I'm wondering is...1. where on the website did you see the change and would they put rejected there as well? 2. do they scatter the decisions over time because this is the second round where a few people got results and posted. 3. how silly is it that they give the decision on a weekend day so those still waiting can't call to ask the above questions? lol Congrats though to those who got good responses Thanks in advanced Hi - I looked on the website after seeing notifications on the results board and in the application summary table there are rows for "application status" and "decision" It's weird because at the top it says "This web application is complete but has not yet been processed". I got an email with decision letter attached a few hours later (Friday night). Good luck!!!!!!
  9. I have not read these, but they are on my list! Bad Animals: A Father's Accidental Education in Autism, Joel Yanofsky Shouting Won't Help: Why I and 50 million Other Americans Can't Hear You, Katherine Bouton I read Jenny McCarthy's book Louder Than Words. I know it's controversial but it's a quick read and I think a lot of parents probably read it.
  10. I have heard nothing. Haven't heard anything from Hunter either -
  11. I got the coloring book for an A&P class and it was the best thing ever. It is really helpful to have that kind of visual, plus I find it soothing to color I second whoever said to sign up for amazon prime - free for students. It's great.
  12. Hi - I am finishing up the post bacc pgm at SUNY New Paltz (online). PM me if you want some info! Also I think Ohio State or Ohio Univ. have online programs.
  13. I had an interview at Queens yesterday and they said they would start notifying at the beginning of April - between April 1 and April 15.
  14. Does anyone know if all the cunys require interviews? If so that will definitely drag out the notification process.
  15. And ........ rejection
  16. sorry I'm still waiting. With my luck I am messing up the upload process by logging on so frequently.
  17. I need to accept that I will basically get no work done today. What are people wearing to interviews? A suit? Or business casual?
  18. Thanks for contacting them...
  19. Was thinking the same thing ....
  20. Nothing for me either. Just says submission status: submitted This process is driving me to drink!
  21. Hi, they are conducting interviews thru 3/27. I am not sure if everyone gets interviewed or only some ppl that they are on the fence about. The website I think says that interview "may" be required. The CUNYs sure take a long time.... have you heard anything from brooklyn or hunter? I have not, except that brooklyn website to check status just says my application has been submitted to the committee and I will be notified by email.
  22. Thanks for emailing them -
  23. An SLP that I spoke during observations said that all schools have great professors, no matter where you go, so grad school is really what you make of it. In other words, even if you go to a school that might be lesser ranked accd to US News (which I don't think employers really care all that much about anyways) you can seek out professors that you connect with and who have done research in areas that you are interested in and really learn a lot by going above and beyond what the coursework requires. You can have a great experience, maybe an even better experience, than at a more "prestigious" school.
  24. Well, were you even able to submit it after Jan 15th and would they have considered it? Yeah that's the thing I don't think the speech pgm accepted after jan 15th but other teachers college pgms do. So who knows. I guess I could email the person listed on the next step page but I am weirdly superstitious about contacting schools.
  25. In other news, I heard from a little bird that works at Columbia law school that if you submitted your app to teacher's college by jan. 15th (which was the deadline) should hear by end of march. Sigh. Not very useful or detailed, but at least it's something.
