Hey, I find housing prices have risen considerably in the last few years in montreal. Avoid craigslist and just walk around with a cell phone calling numbers in windows and you will find better deal.
  2. You might also want to check your school of graduate studies web page because they probably set the policy for the whole school. most schools that fund will have something called an incentive policy, which means they will let you keep at least a fraction of what you win.

Yes. I did. However I haven't managed to get all the payment forms through yet. It's late enough in the summer to be difficult for me to obtain the required signatures from my department. *&^$*&%$&^$

    SSHRC

That was a number that was generated on your actual application. Don't worry about it.

    SSHRC

It _does_ actually seem to be the same as the application number i received in confirmation after submitting my application. It is not the same as the internal use number listed on my application.

I don't think your award number is the same as your application number. I'm sorry. This number is sent in your letter if you've won an award and apparently the schools get it with the results.. all you need in your acceptance email seems to eb your name and that number but the rest of the information (such as type of award and duration) couldn't hurt. Afterward there are forms to fill out (which ones are depending on where you are located) available from the guide at the link i posted a few days ago..

You will need your award number which you can hopefully get from your school's DGS. There's a guide online here: http://www.sshrc.ca/site/using-utiliser ... r-eng.aspx The first thing you need to do is send an email accepting the award with your award number tp: fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca

one more thing, I just got confirmation from SSHRC that I can begin processing my payments without my acceptance letter (since the one they sent to my Canadian address seems to be lost in the mail). This must be good news for some of you who are in similar situations so I thought I would share it.

Thanks! I have a question now for anyone who has been in communication with SSHRC.. is it still possible to accept the award for this term (the Summer 2009 term beginning in May)? I've been living off borrowed money this month so I'm hoping this is the case, however the wording of all the award documentation makes it look like you need to accept in advance of the term (clearly impossible when notices went out this late). Anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks ogopogo! espressocup, don't forget you also need a copy of your award offer when you submit your form..

Yay! No letter here yet, but my landlord in the US told me over the phone that something arrived there, and I was offered a SSHRC for my remaining two years of study! 23.9 in Fine Arts for what that's worth (clearly, very little).

*grumble* Apparently, though I had confirmed by email an address change with SSHRC no less than twice, (their being a month and a half late means I'd returned home for the summer by the time they had released the results) my letter still got sent to the the US. Looks like I won't be getting my results til sometime mid next week. If anyone else thinks that their results might have gotten sent to the wrong address you should contact SSHRC by email and check.

urgh. It is actually quite frustrated to hear that other Montrealers have received their letters already.. Come on lucky Friday mail!

Whew! Looks like the wait should be over soon! A last round of good lucks to everyone still waiting for their results!
  19. phreeduh

    SSHRC

yup. I've accepted it, but my acceptance won't be processed until the SSHRC results come in, and so my summer payments will be late late late.

    SSHRC

I've known for almost a month that I received an FQRSC (the Quebec version of SSHRC) this year, but SSHRC's tardiness is still effecting me, since my acceptance won't be processed until SSHRC responds (and that means living off my credit card). There are other Canadian organizations who ask their recipients to only accept if they did not receive the SSHRC, and so are waiting for the results before they start their funding payments. This is creating a huge problem for everyone until the other show drops and SSHRC releases their list.

Hmm. Can anyone from a different school with similar information conjecture on whether these cuts have been made across the board?

Does anyone know if the PhD letters have even left SSHRC yet?

I'd kind of like to cry on your behalf after watching you stress about this for so long now. These things are so difficult to predict since they rely on so many subjective factors. Better luck next year, at least you know you made it to the highest possible level without receiving the actual grant.
