  1. jdchrys, I understand your frustration. This is my second year applying also...but both years it's only been to Arizona State (I live in Phoenix and am not in a position to move right now). Can you give your stats? GRE, GPA, undergrad major, extracurriculars, etc?
  2. I'm still waiting, too! It seems like this happened last year, too...kind of like notifying in waves, maybe?
  3. I'm still waiting, too! Eek! I was told yesterday by someone who works in the department that this year has been a really tough year for applicants...a really high percentage of the applicants had 4.0 GPAs. So...I'm not holding my breath. BUT, it doesn't decrease how badly I want to find out!
  4. It looks like some people have received admissions from ASU today! Congrats to those who've been accepted! Fingers crossed for those of us still waiting to hear!
  5. I hear that Utah State's online leveling program is great, and it looks like you get in-state tuition regardless of where you live!
  6. I'm really excited to hear so many good things about Utah State's online coursework. I have a BA in Spanish and an AAS in SLPA. Although I am seriously hoping to be admitted to Arizona State's 3-year leveling program, I'm not super hopeful that I will be admitted. SO, I've enrolled in Utah State's post-bac as my backup plan. (haven't started any courses yet, though.)
  7. I did my science courses at a local community college, and I'm currently doing my Stats course that way. I'm really happy that I've done that way.
  8. Thanks so much for the update, PuraVida! I hope we receive those decisions sooner rather than later! I have to tell my boss at work what my plan is for next year by Friday...
  9. Awesome! Thanks for the info, Coco! That definitely sounds interesting, and if I can convince my husband to move, I'd be interested in living somewhere new for a couple years. (Pllus he has relatives there, so that would help!)
  10. I'm also interested in bilingual programs. Does University of Minnesota-Twin Cities seem to have a pretty good bilingual program? Do they offer any study abroad opportunities? I'm waiting to hear back from Arizona State (hopefully today!), but am looking into other options in case I get a rejection from there.
  11. Hopefully by the end of today, since it's the last day of the month!!! I keep checking my email, hoping there will be something from ASU!
  12. I volunteered for about a year helping teach English to refugees. I am an SLPA, so I did 150 hours of SLPA practicum (bilingual Spanish/English) last spring in a special needs preschool, in addition to having done multiple observations of various SLPs. I also volunteered every Saturday for a summer with a local pediatric clinic assisting with a language group. I've been thinking about looking for more volunteer opportunities. In fact, one thing I'm interested in getting some volunteer experience in is something having to do with autism.
  13. Anyone hear anything yet about admission to ASU??? slphopefully, you mentioned that they are going to be having a few open houses...did the lady say if those will take place before or after decisions have been sent out? I'm assuming after, but I don't know. Since this is the last week of the month, I'm assuming we'll hear something soon!!!!
  14. None here, unfortunately. My BA is in Spanish. I am really interested in doing research, though, at ASU. It sounds like they have a lot of research going on, so I'd love to get involved in some of that.
  15. That's fantastic news! I have to admit, I kind of enjoyed the whole interview event last year (although I was miserably sick that day), but it was pretty stressful. The end of the month is coming really soon! I can't wait to find out! Thank you SO much for finding out and posting this info!!!
  16. I interviewed last year at Arizona State, and they asked get-to-know-you questions, as well as things like "how do you cope with stress," "what would you bring to our graduate program," and "what was your most difficult undergraduate course and why." They didn't ask me anything at all about field-related stuff...although the writing sample I had to do that day did.
  17. I know that Arizona State has a great bilingual program (that's where I applied). I also know that University of Arizona (a VERY highly ranked program) just started a bilingual track this year (13-14). I have a BA in Spanish and studied in Costa Rica. I am currently working as a bilingual SLPA in a school district in AZ. I am part of the district's speech and language evaluation team, and I go do Spanish speech and language screenings, and I also translate parent input from Spanish to English.
  18. Ah. Thanks! Here's hoping we both get interviews! I only applied to ASU, as I live in Phoenix and my husband and I are not prepared to up and move just yet. However, if I don't get in this time around, I plan to take my leveling coursework online through NAU next year and then broaden my sights a bit.
  19. Why do your professors look down on it? I'm currently an SLPA, and my starting salary in my school district (in Phoenix) is roughly equivalent to the starting salary for a teacher, although I know that's not always the case. I feel like it can't hurt to be working in the field, and then try again for grad school once you've got some experience under your belt. That's the boat I'm in.
  20. I applied to ASU. I haven't heard anything yet. I applied last year, also, and received an invitation to interview on 2/7 for the 3/1 interview event. I'm really hoping to at least get an interview again this year! I am now employed as an SLPA in a school district AND I improved my GRE scores. Good luck to you! Where did you see on the website about them contacting about interviews in early February? I don't remember seeing that.
