  1. I'm going to express my frustration because my boyfriend is way too easy going. He's on a wait list and received a VERY strange email last night from the grad coordinator saying they won't know until today. It's 11:24 where we are, and still nothing. Isn't there an April 15th deadline? Is the department to blame, or their FGS?
  2. Does anyone know what's going on with the wait lists at U of Maryland and Iowa? I'm asking for my boyfriend.
  3. Just turned down an offer at BU at took myself off of UT Austin's wait list. Good luck to those on the wait lists!

    Canadian MA

UVic! I have heard unpleasant things about Toronto's MA program. MA students get lost in the already very large grad student crowd. You want, out of your MA, great letters applying to PhD programs. You might get that at Toronto, but you would have to wow people fast. Good choice turning down Queen's. MA programs are super quick. You want an environment that is stimulating, supportive, and as least stressful as possible.
  5. Interesting- I'm waitlisted at UT Austin and rejected from CUNY. Fit matters so much. Lesson.. learned.
  6. Any other Canadians here waiting to hear from SSHRC? If I win one, it could change my decision. I'm getting super antsy.
  7. I received an email response- the rejection email was a mistake (thank god).
  8. That's so weird. I have been lucky to receive timely responses, but perhaps it's because I was on the official waitlist. I wonder if grad coordinators sift through emails and open ones from names they recognize, then address others later. I just emailed as a "reply" to the last email I received (explained above) asking her to confirm my rejection. This process is really, really stressful. I'm ready to turn down offers and go to law school (just kidding- kind of).
  9. Hey everyone- I was notified a few weeks ago that I am "high on the waitlist" at UT Austin. The last email I received was on March 14th just making sure that I haven't accepted another offer and that things are developing quickly on their end. But I just received the automated email with everyone else to check the website and my status says "Denied." Is it normal to be wait listed and then rejected by the website? I'm taken aback, since the email I received just a few days ago was enthusiastic and promising. This is a super disappointing way to be rejected from a wait list.
  10. Okay, so I said that I was removing myself from these forums. But I'm getting really antsy about my position on Texas Austin's wait list. I am "rather high" on the wait list, and received two emails from Sally Jackman letting me know that things are moving quickly and asking me to confirm that I haven't accepted another offer, and that I am still interested in attending their program. This is my first choice, so I'm wondering if any of you have info on the following: (1) how many people are "rather high" on the wait list, and (2) if one or some of you have already turned down or plan to turn down an offer from Texas Austin. Any info would be super helpful! I'm in my 1st year of a funded PhD program right now, and if I decide to transfer to another school, then it's possible my funding will be cut off for the spring and summer months. So it would be really great to know sooner than later so I can make spring/summer plans.
  11. Incontradiction, you probably have a great chance of being accepted off BU's waitlist. Everyone: I'm removing myself from these forums until the admissions process is over. I really don't like the obsessive and frustrated person they are turning me into. Good luck with all your applications, and congrats on making it this far!
  12. I won't be able to decide on Boston until I hear back from everywhere, and especially until I know whether I'm in off the waitlist at Texas Austin or not. incontradiction: your waitlist from Maryland wa solicited, right? I'm wondering because I still haven't heard from Maryland, but GF search results tells me that someone was sought out by the admissions committee and put on the waitlist. This makes me wonder whether the rest of us who are just waiting aren't *really* on a waitlist at all.
  13. Okay, so are we believing the Michigan post? Super mixed messages.
  14. Fair enough, haha. Let's hope I'm first up on Texas Austin's waitlist. I'm still waiting on CUNY, Columbia, Toronto, and Michigan- all of which I would take over Boston if I get in. But it's not looking good.
