  1. I will definitely consider it and I will call (really busy day today), but I'm still really not quite sold on the Psy.D. Plus, although my primary goal is clinical practice, I would like to do more research than Psy.D graduates usually look to do. I'm also highly psychodynamic/psychoanalytic and also have a strong interest in behavioral genetics, as well as neuroscientific research applications to clinical practice in areas such as neuropsychoanalysis and cognitive neurophysiology. If your program does have those criteria and I can learn to swallow the idea of a Psy.D, I will most certainly put it on my list of schools. This is where I am working on my undergraduate studies: http://derner.adelphi.edu/about/index.php
  2. I know right? And the general GRE seems to strongly resemble the SAT in structure.
  3. The GRE scores I put on there are hypothetical. I made them lower than I expect to receive on purpose, as to give me and idea of what my minimum threshold was. I take the psychology subject GRE April 20th and the General GRE most likely in June.
  4. Psychology Subject GRE April 20th. Woohoo!

  5. Thanks! My ideal school is a Ph.D program in clinical psychology that has a psychodynamic and/or health psychological orientation which has a highly clinical emphasis, but puts a little more emphasis on research than the conventional Psy.D. That's why continuing at Adelphi University is my top choice. I don't really need the legacy status to get into a doctoral program in clinical psychology, but I figured if it could give me a leg up, why would that be a bad thing? I was just trying to figure out whether or not it might give me priority for consideration; not necessarily acceptance. Also, does anyone know if any doctoral programs have early action admission?
  6. Hi everyone, Do you think this is good enough for acceptance into Ph.D programs in clinical psychology (I'm currently an undergrad junior studying psychology in my spring semester at Adelphi University). GRE: 1050 Psych GRE: 640 Overall GPA: 3.48 Psychology GPA: 3.64 Research Experience: Autism Traits, Cognitive/perceptual deficits and Genetic Susceptibility in College Students; developmental course case study; behavior disorders course case study. Clinical Experience: Board Member for Community Alliance for the Ethical Treatment of Youth; internship Certifications: First Aid, CPR, Psychological First Aid Research Interests: PTSD and restraint in private residential care programs, the efficacy of psychotherapy as a supplement to treatment of lysosomal storage diseases Sample of psychology courses I've taken: psychological research, practicum in clinical psychology, neuropsychology, psychoanalysis, psychological statistics, developmental psychology, psychopathology, social psychology, behavior disorders in childhood. Recommendations: One professor, my research advisor and the executive director of the human rights organization I'm on the board of.
  7. I'm about to start applying to Ph.D programs in clinical psychology for fall 2014 (first application due 12/5/13. My question is: in graduate school (particularly doctoral programs in clinical psychology), does legacy status (having a member of your family having graduated from the same university) or familial donations help in admission. Not that I need it; just curious.
  8. I'm graduating a semester early and I'm wondering if any schools will allow you to take courses (Ph.D in clinical psychology) while not yet accepted or accepted, but not enrolled for credit/transfer credit? Also, your opinions on the following schools (my interests are in the psychodynamics of PTSD in survivors of abuse in residential care programs and the influences of behavioral/psychiatric genetics in psychiatric/developmental disorders and genetic diseases with organic psychoses on psychotherapy). They are in order of preference: 1. Adelphi University- Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology, Psychodynamic Emphasis) 2. Yeshiva University- Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology (Ph.D- Health Emphasis With a Minor in Clinical Neuropsychology) 3. Columbia University- Teacher's College (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology) 4. New York University- (Ph.D- Counseling Psychology) 5. Long Island University (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology, Brooklyn Campus) 6. Syracuse University- (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology) 7. Rutgers University- (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology 8. SUNY Stony Brook- (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology 9. Washington University in St. Louis (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology) 10. Northeastern University- (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology) 11. SUNY Binghamton- (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology) 12. Pace University- (Ph.D- Clinical Psychology)
  9. What are the best Ph.D programs in clinical psychology that have a psychodynamic bias?
  10. Hi everyone, I haven't been through the academic applications process in a few years and I have a few questions while I spend the next year or so preparing to send in applications for graduate school in clinical psychology (Ph.D), bear with me. First, a little about me: I'm a junior majoring in psychology at Adelphi University (Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies). My psychology GPA hovers around 3.8 and my overall gpa is usually between 3.5 and 3.7. The two schools at the top of my list are: Ph.D in clinical psychology, Adelphi University (Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies) Ph.D with Health Emphasis in clinical psychology with a minor in clinical neuropsychology at Yeshiva Universtity (Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology) So, onto my questions: 1. Has anyone here applied to either program at either school? If so, what was your experience like? What are the admissions statistics for each school? 2. Is it advisable to take the psych GRE, the general GRE or both when applying to Ph.D programs in clinical psychology? 3. Will having a psychological disorder, being a disability rights advocate or battling a chronic genetic disease, along with my grades and GRE scores, increase my chances of being accepted into such a program? 4. If I transferred to my current university from another, do I have to send original transcripts from both universities if the current university has the grades and credits from my previous university? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
