  1. besides that "it depends on each program", i would say the average is somewhere around 1:3 ratio?? they usually interview more people(aka the finalists), and then accept part of the interviewed ones.
  2. hey Maxine, to answer your question: "Are most of you planning on taking out loans to cover the costs?" well, I also received a good amount of financial aid, but it still leaves me a lot $$ to come up with, some tuition, required fees, living expenses, etc etc. I am not sure if it makes sense for me to take loans to cover the cost.. because realistically speaking, I won't get a job with big $$ after grad school, and I don't want to be in debt for the rest of my life...
  3. oh, more student loans.... I have seen some discussions on this forum, and I am not sure if it makes sense for me to take a ton more loans for graduate degree. Plus I will be paying back $$ in additional to undergraduate loans I am already paying.
  4. thank you thank you! Yes, I will add your alma mater to my list!
  5. Thank you so much for your kind words!!! to answer your questions, I am from China. Thinking about teaching English or art for a year, or even more, while I reapply again. My paintings are not really assignments. I am aware that I am still into those "old masters" stuff, such as the visual forces, form, space, color, light, those old stuff. After I graduated college, I am residency hopping all over the country, exploring different landscapes, and different ideas. Such as bring in my architectural background instinct, paint on 2-3 panels to make the division mean something, go abstract, less "this is a beautiful landscape" Eventually, I want what the "idea" is to come out of my paintings by itself. Recently, I am working on some up-side-down stuff, because they somehow maintain the visual forces, spaces ect, but speak less of a "landscape." Ideally, I want to attend an MFA program offers a diverse range of possibilities. Not too conceptual, nor too traditional. Really let my work decide where it wants to go in the next coupe of years. (American University is such a program for me, but the $$$ is the biggest problem for me...) I am already start to gather a list of schools with great funding, and I will rule out way too conceptual programs. What schools do you have in mind? And I will message you the statement I wrote for this round application. Thank you so much! This means A LOT to me.
  6. I really want to go to American U, and they gave me some scholarship, which I am very grateful for, but I still need to pay the rest of the tuition, plus living in DC for two years will put me in debt for 60k or so. Not to mention the student loan I already have from undergraduate. I didn't get interview for MICA or RISD, so not looking good at this point... so I guess it wont hurt if I am prepared for the last option: reapply next year I will look into Ohio U! thank you for your help, and I truly wish you the BEST LUCK!!
  7. This year was my first round of applying for MFA, much freaking out and tears April 15th is about a month away, but most likely, I cannot afford to go to grad school this fall I wish I discovered this forum earlier, I wish I applied to more widely ranged schools So, I plan apply again for Fall 2014 I have been painting landscape for years, but I am in the transition towards more idea-driven work I myself as a person is very contemporaty, and I am pushing my work that direction as well my website has my old stuff: www.jennywuart.com facebook page is more up-to-date: www.facebook.com/JennyWuArt so, dear friends, what schools do you recommend when I apply for next year? I will have some new work in the portfolio, but most of it will still be landscape paintings ideal programs: generous funding, financial aid, assistantship (I am not a citizen nor permanent resident) big universities with all sorts of other majors, not an art school prefer big cities or at least close to big cities what do I want to do after MFA: realist: a job will get me a working visa ideal job: art professor, and paint all day long (yeah, i know this dream will take years if not decades to achieve) THANK YOU THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

    2013 MFA Results?

accepted to American University, graduate assistantship, but still leaves me A LOT $$$ to come up with maybe not able to go this year, maybe I will be back fall 2014....
  9. I got notified via phone. But from what I've heard, email, phone, mail are also possible. When and if they put you on a waiting list, they will let you know.
  10. I have the same question and was about to start a topic on negotiating for more funding. anyone who has done before? does negotiating actually have a slight chance to get you more funding??
  11. congratz! one question, were interviews required for Ohio State and SVA? because in my case, when school A says on their website they will interview the finalists and I heard nothing yet, it would be logical to assume it is a rejection for me?
  12. i am in the same situation. people are already getting accepted/rejected, but my status is still "complete ready for review" too.... not too much hope at this point, probably they just didn't bother to update their system
  13. accepted, American University, via email, official letter to follow. no words on funding yet.
  14. oh well, i assume it is a rejection for me then...
  15. Waiting list is a funny thing, you kind of feel good because it is not just a rejection, there is still chance. but meanwhile, it also means more WAITING... How are the other waitlisted folks holding up? Share your stories, and SUPPORT each other! to the folks who have multiple offers and you are sure you won't go to xxx university, please inform admissions now, because we ALL know this waiting game is no fun. THANK YOU.
  16. do you happen to know anything about VCU painting/printmaking?? thanks
  17. it also says " Fall 2013 Deadlines: VCUarts Deadline for regular admission was January 15. The School of the Arts will continue to review applications until all spots are full. " don't they get hundreds of applicants?? or maybe this particular department didn't get enough? I think you should call them, nobody here can provide you a solid answer.
  18. that is strange, because VCUarts site says the deadline is Jan 15th, and begin review date is Mar 15th, which is also kind of late compare to some other departments???
  19. 23, hopefully to start MFA in the fall
  20. fruit only, maybe some eggs.... ahhhh, applying to grad schools is a pretty damn good way to lose weight....

    2013 MFA Results?

waitlisted at WashU/WUSTL for their MFA in Visual Art. notified 2/21 via phone call. people who are accepted to WashU and don't want to go there, tell them ASAP please because I DO want to go.
  22. Waitlisted for WashU/WUSTL MFA, Painting. phone call. people who have other offers and don't want to go to WashU, tell them ASAP because I DO want to go there.
  23. i don't think that means anything, i heard people from waiting to rejected, and from waiting to accepted, both say "not entered" for the entire time. but it might depends on the school system, if it bothers you, you should just ask the individual school
