The big H is waiting to find out from the graduate school how many students they can admit this year. Things are more top-down with the recent hiring freeze.
Now, this is a fine observation. Do you think search committees will remember this in 5-7 years? An extra "boost" for a job in the offing. There will be jobs...right?
Rumblings that the state budget may force the graduate school to cut programs, possibly political science. UofM acceptees would be wise to immediately decline their offers.
I don't think BC is necessarily a safety school, though it's not ranked in the top 50. I was rejected there but accepted to a place higher up. Aside from accepting a very tiny percentage of applicants, I think they are looking for a very specific, quirky kind of scholar...at least in American politics and political theory.
Well, this is certainly nerve-wracking. I have just been tipped off that Columbia will be notifying all acceptees in the next few hours.
I've got a request for 99 bottles of beer on the wall....anyone?
I think Columbia may email decisions tomorrow. They have notified for the past couple of years on the third Friday in Feb. And the committee met today...
I *predict* by the end of next week word will be sent out. Usually the end of February with them. There is a graduate student from there that frequents grad cafe ("gradster") who is supposed to keep us posted.
