A half inch of snow in Nashville causes all the schools to close (actually, pretty much the whole city shuts down), and a run on food and water at the grocery stores. It's pretty ridiculous. We are supposed to have 5-10 inches tonight.
U.S. History, specifically religion. Right now, my research is focused upon federal harassment and prosecution of conscientious objectors during World War I.
Baylor's history department is pretty different. They take 2-3 a year, and the only fields available for study are American or English religious history.
That's a good question. Yale and Stanford were my top choices, and Yale was my best fit out of all the programs I applied....
Really not sure what to think about the interview at Baylor.
Lots of academics suck at writing. Obviously the chair needs a copy editor.
I'm actually really annoyed right now because the email they sent me had a link, supposedly to the decision letter. The link is wrong, it sent me to the staff end of their application site. The first part of the URL is "admit". Since they have been pretty consistent at sending out rejections around Feb 21-22 for past several years, those things combined got my hopes up just a little bit.
Jerks.
Anna Leigh, I thought so too, though I've heard from two people now that the Vandy history department is fighting for an additional slot with the Graduate School before sending out admits.
Did you apply to Vandy? If so, what field?
And there were also several Stanford admissions last week as well....and then with the person above who stated that the list had been sent to current students....very frustrating.
That is actually my Plan B as well. My former career is in Natural Resources/Land Management law enforcement. I've got a couple of aps in with the Forest Service and Army Corps of Engineers for Ranger/Tech positions.
Congrats on your acceptances. That is kind of a hard question to answer without more information. Does one program fit you better than the other? Does one program offer more funding than another? How certain are the faculty that you could continue? You might also want to consider mentioning to the MA program that you have a PhD admit from the other school and see if they can give you a better offer...
