  1. When I went through the process, I heard back beginning of February.
  2. ^I agree with the above. 8 weeks is a long time to keep you hanging, especially considering they put a 6 week max in their automated e-mail. At the same time, you don't want to piss someone off, so it's probably best to check the website first. If the website doesn't discourage you from calling, a friendly email or phone check-up should be in order.
  3. Hi, I'm not familiar with the two scholarships, but did you apply for them together? If not, it seems like they are two completely different scholarships and thus would have two completely separate review processes. It seems like this only applies to IPRS. Hope that helps!
  4. I agree with the above post. Two weeks is a bit close. Maybe after a month has passed?
  5. Yes, losing my mind and even considering dropping most of the places I was planning to apply to
  6. Hi guys, I'm in the middle of applications and realized that I should not be applying to several schools, and I was planning to let my recommenders know to save them time. I've already applied to a lot of reach schools, and I don't want to waste any more time or money on places that are pretty near impossible. Of course, I would explain my rationale behind it, and I felt confident they would be understanding. However, my friend (also applying to grad schools) said it would probably confuse my recommenders and make me look bad if I let them know. She suggests that I let them send the recommendations and just not submit the application myself. Wouldn't that look bad for my recommenders if they send letters for an applicant who didn't apply? Wouldn't my recommenders find out if I did not apply??
  7. Hi guys, So I'm torn whether to apply to Duke's Ph.D. in Econ at the Dept of Economics or to the Ph.D. Finance at Fuqua. I'm interested in the intersection of finance and macroeconomics: how macroeconomic policies and variables influence asset prices and investor behavior. If you could give me some advice on which to choose with focus on the following concerns, that would be great: -Which is more flexible? (if in Econ, can I work with Fuqua profs/research resources and vice versa)? -Which is more reputable? (just trying to be pragmatic) Thanks!
  8. Hi guys, I was going to register 3 recommenders, but the Ph.D. in Finance program I'm looking at only requires 2. I've registered 2 so far, but am unsure of whether to change. 1) My research advisor - obviously, this one stays. 2) The executive director of the undergrad business program, a teaching prof, and my academic advisor. He's known me for four years, so he knows about my academic trajectory, but he's only taught me an intro course in business. I was thinking about changing to a senior Professor in the math department who taught me Intro to Mathematical Finance. He's very respected in the field of mathematical finance, but he's only known me a semester. What should I do??
