  1. Thanks. I'm actually taking it a lot harder than I thought, considering I was 50/50 between Penn and HGSE this morning anyway. I'm just frustrated with my timing. Oh well.

Congrats to everyone who got in. Would have been shocked if you didn't! Have fun! :D

Unlucky Edugy. That shock goes for you :/

  2. Yeah, "next week or two" - not exactly music to our ears.

Let me spin this: They've been holding masters notifications until all the doctoral students had their decisions. Now that the Ed.D. and Ed.L.D. decisions are out, they can release masters decisions. Tomorrow. Maybe. I hope.

  3. How could Johns Hopkins be in the top 10 if 2013 is the first year they are accepting PhD candidates and their application deadline is April 1st, which means they could not have all of the stats on all the applicants?

Maybe it included EdD's? It was ranked last year. (Top 10 too)

  4. I'm just going to call tomorrow morning and ask if they know when decisions are scheduled to come out.

I'm a little surprised it took 30 pages (and how many since we officially got antsy?) for someone to propose this sublimely clever idea. Shoulda thought of that.

  5. I studied philosophy in college, then went into the navy for a couple months, then started a program to be a teacher and was in the middle of that when I applied. In my essay I basically talked about how I've been helping people with college/law school/commissioning essays for years and really am fascinated with the admissions process. No idea how that worked but it did.

  6. by 'size' you mean??

Well mostly there's just sooo many students/faculty/staff. I don't really want to back to my giant state school experience. I actually am not sure of the exact size of the EP or HE cohorts at TC, but the overall number of students is just huge. I much prefer the smaller programs at Penn, for instance, where I feel like you'd know everyone in your program, and recognize most of the people at the school (600 students vs 5000).

The size of the building is a small factor, too. It's huge and somewhat labyrinthine. It's also older, which makes it very beautiful but it really shows its age in some places.

  7. Had my visit today. I thought the student reps from the HE program were great in person, at least. The Columbia campus is gorgeous, and most of TC is really beautiful. Morningside Heights is really amazing, enough to really tempt me towards TC. The size was a little off-putting for me. There's a ton of students and programs there. I've had a loooong day so I'm not sure what else to say about it. I would definitely consider going, but I don't think it could edge out Penn for me personally.
