You might as well give it to us now - not sure how long this site will be around.

Based on your own rankings here it seems like school B fairs the best.

So where are my other history peeps heading in this autumn?
-
Something tells me that it will be better than the 80 degrees BELOW windchill that I experienced in Morris, Minnesota. We had to wear ski goggles to go to class. Chicago isn't any fun weather wise either. Maybe the worst sunburn I've ever had was after the Taste of Chicago. Mild. Is. Good.

Siiiggggghhhhh . . . . I grew up in Minnesota. Sadness. Seeing a girl in a tank top still gives my system a shock. Actually, Colorado is much milder than I anticipated. Like I said, I am pretty much Canadian (eh?), but I've been here since Jan. and only once did the word, "cold" ever enter my mind when it maybe hit ten degrees. It has been sunny and 70 pretty much all April. Still - I'm thinking California will be a bit more, shall we say, scantaly clad (if that is even how you spell the cliche). Here is to burning off calories. Cheers!

Social Sciences because I can't actually read :? Kidding.

So it is offical. UC Berkeley here I come!

University of California - Berkeley, History MA/PhD. Woot, woot! Hooray for finally knowing where I will be living next year!

Oh my goodness . . . HILARIOUS.

Ha ha - good call Vrex. If I were you Squirrely, I would just try to do my best to keep my distance until you feel a little better about the whole situation.

Yeah, seriously, where are all of these people as I get ready for grad school in quite little Colorado?
-
I feel your pain dude, let it out!! It feels good to type it, doesn't it?
-
Aino2000, what program at Berkeley, I'm in the same spot.

I'm only a year ahead of myself (starting grad school at 21). But I've learned that if people don't take you seriously because of your age, (to use a bit of a cliche) it is typically their loss. Obviously, if you are rejected for a TAship or something because of your age, then it is your loss (obviously) but I doubt anything like that will happen, especially if you carry yourself well and have good ideas.

That, right there, is a solid list. Someone has clearly given this some previous thought.

Whoa! What happened to this forum?!?! I'm hoping to be that "Hot TA" someday. I just bought a couple of low-cut shirts, and I'm a dude! They were pretty hard to find, and I'm a little nervous of looking like a pirate, but I think the students will like it. I'm kidding of course. Hopefully the people on this board will going into TAing just being themselves, not do anything to make students uncomfortable, and have a little fun with their new posts.

It is hard to believe that some of us are still waiting on details with T minus not-a-lot-of-time-left. Good luck everyone!

Guest - take a look at Cornell. I've met some archaeologists who do double duty in their archaeology program as well as their Latin American studies program. Just a thought.

It sounds to me like you might be leaning towards the place closer to home/friends. Quality of life is something you should seriously consider. If it were a really amazing job that would help your career down the line, but it was in a crappy location, would you feel any differently about it? You could go either way. But I think it would be easy for someone who doesn't know anything about your personal life to tell you to walk away from it and go to a prestigious program. My opinion.

Dan, take a look at where USC is placing people (in other words where grads of the program are getting jobs), and take a look at the faculty of some of your favorite departments and where they went to school. In my experience, people who aren't from the top programs, that fill a specific niche in their field, can get jobs. I can't tell you if going to a non-top-25 school would be worth it or not . . . but I guess you can ask yourself that if you were to take a mulligan on your applications, what would you have done differently? If you think that there are things you can change, maybe give it a go again next year. My advisor in anthropology didn't go to a top-10 school, but as a minority and a women, she was able to find a job, teaching about minorities and women and she couldn't be happier. Sorry for the sloppy post, coffee hasn't kicked in yet. I hope you get the idea. By the way, I was 3 for 3 in the UK and only 1 for 4 in the US.

As a related side note, my father tells me that when he first became a lawyer he had the feeling that he was a fraud and would soon be discovered. He says it took him a couple of years to get comfortable. My point is that I think it happens to everyone.

Wow. This whole process is screwed up. Thanks for the interesting stories!

I just posted a response to this question in the other thread. This appears to be a duplicate.
