Here's a form letter we can use if/when we are rejected from our top choice: http://www.gettingintogradschool.com/book/rejecting-a-rejection-letter

Don't give up hope quite yet. I've read a bunch of stuff from people who thought schools were done making offers when they got one. How many more schools did you apply to?
-
Well, now another one just popped up...

Maybe it was someone playing a cruel joke...

Oh, well there's another one. Maybe it's them! Yeah, plus the Raleigh area gets voted "best place to live" a lot. And cost of living is WAY lower than most of the places I'm applying. It's like, half of what it costs to live on the coasts.

I don't think I know you, so I'm glad it wasn't . But thanks. I feel like NC State's ranking (near 50) doesn't reflect the work they're doing. I applied to four top ten programs, but I would only pick one of them over NC State.

I did, but it was for a sociology program. I generally applied to Crim programs that had a sociology emphasis and sociology programs that had a crim emphasis. Thanks

UCI CLS applicants must not be on Grad Cafe, because I haven't seen any other acceptances around... I DID get an acceptance to another program today that I was equally hoping for, so that has helped ease my anxiety. Although I am still waiting to hear back from my top choice...

They must have a thing for Minnesotans. Thanks, you too!

Got an acceptance call from the chair of the ad comm at UC Davis this morning. It won't let me enter it into the results page. It says I didn't answer the captcha correctly, but I don't see a captcha... Details about funding and the visiting day will follow within the next couple of weeks.

Imagine how I felt when I saw I had an email from UCI, especially after reading your post that they would be making decisions soon. THEN, imagine how I felt when I read that they hadn't even received my transcripts yet. It would take like a week to have them resent! Thankfully, the problem was that I had had them sent to the Social Sciences department, not the Social Ecology department. They were super nice and it got figured out right away, which is surprising late on a Friday afternoon. But...all's well that ends well I guess. I have 3 or 4 programs that I'm pretty excited about, and if I get into any of them, I'll be happy. So, once I get that first acceptance, my anxiety will go way down. I'm really not worried about not getting into any program. I almost certainly will because I only applied to programs that were a good fit regardless of rank, but it's just a matter of getting into a program I'm really excited for. Did you apply only to Criminology programs? I also applied to sociology programs...

I just got an email from them saying they are currently reviewing applications and hadn't received my transcripts (it was a mistake on my part...durr). So...I'm guessing it'll be at least a few days before they start making decisions, although I admittedly don't know how the admissions process works.

How do you know when they will be announcing? I applied there as well....

Three and a half seasons of Breaking Bad since the middle of December. I've also been working a lot. I got a call from one of my programs the other day...to ask if I had any questions about the program. I thought it was "the call." http://www.solarmovie.so/tv/breaking-bad-2008/

I guess I didn't mention...my fiance is applying to residencies at the same time. So after I find out where I was accepted, we have to decide where we want to go and she has to submit her choices by February 23rd. So...I have to make my decisions by then. I HAVE been reading for pleasure though. I'm reading Faith Based by Hackworth (about the relationship between neoliberalism and evangelical Christianity) and Carl Sagan's Billions and Billions. I've also been doing pleasure writing. BUT, I still have work to do before I can totally relax...

Yeah. I've watched two and a half seasons of Breaking Bad since the middle of December. It's the first tv show I've watched in about five years. I also sat and played video games with my room mates last night. Pretty quick here I'll start reading about quality-of-life stuff in the cities I'm applying to and finding other ways to help decide where to go, assuming I get into more than one program.

Yeah. I've been avoiding these forums since I started the application process. I know I'll get obsessive about checking them. Once all my applications are in, I'll start reading old forums just to see what I can expect. I keep telling myself it's more important to focus my time on the SoP and applications....but here I am anyway. Good luck everyone, and I look forward to stressing out with all of you over the next couple of months. It's actually really comforting to know other people are going through the same thing. No one around me seems to understand. They're all like "I haven't seen you lately, what have you been up to?" "Oh, just working and applying to graduate school." "That's it?" "Um...yeah."
