  1. I am beyond nervous. I really don't like thinking about it because I know there is such a small chance of getting it... The outcome of this decides which of the two schools I'll go to! Anyone else in that boat? Also, does anyone if your discipline makes a difference? That is, if (for example) biology has a lot of applicants, do they get a proportional amount of awards?
  2. I emailed the program a few times a week ago, and then received my rejection in the portal. Never heard a response from their secretary or the POI. I am a bit disappointed in light of the $80 app fee.
  3. I am still waiting on the SESAME program. The FAQ on the site says admissions are sent out in mid-March. Next week will be tough! Anyone else here apply to the SESAME or EMST programs?
  4. Hi Everyone! I have a quick question. In the solicitation, it says that we should include separate statements that address each of the merit criterion within our essays. I'm a bit confused. Does that mean that we must structure our writing with headings for each? Or - on the other hand - would it be acceptable to mention these criterion within our essay via directly addressing it or using a superscript?
  5. I've basically got two options: School (1) has the perfect program for obtaining the job I want, and I've been offered a full ride for it. Considering it's a master's program, that's hard to beat. Unfortunately, I know no one in the area (pretty far from home) and it's in a mountainous region (lots of snow). School (2) is much closer to my undergrad and friends, yet has offered no funding; nonetheless, the school is relatively prestigious. How much does distance and weather matter to you? Do I sound ridiculous for even considering NOT going to the paid program?
  6. Thanks for the frank advice! Definitely don't want to be a badger!
  7. I applied 2 months ago to a Master's program at NCSU. I emailed the graduate director 2 weeks ago asking for a status update. He said they have been very "tardy" about MS applicants, and that I should know soon. Alas, I still haven't heard back. Is it ok to email back asking again, or will this hinder my chances? After all, I'm confident he's part of the committee reviewing applications. I'm just annoyed because this acceptance/rejection is the only one I haven't gotten, and I'm ready to be in a position to make a decision.
  8. Is it wrong to email the department and ask if you're on a waitlist?
  9. I applied to a Master's program, so I was hoping to hear back rather quickly!
  10. Oh ok. I applied to the mathematics and have yet to hear anything.
  11. Where did you see that people had been accepted to NCSU? For what program?
  12. Wow! Didn't know this was out there. They should advertise it better.
  13. Thanks for the input! So staying at UNC CH might not be too big a stretch? I've heard people normally go "a step down" for graduate school.
  14. The following are my stats. Thanks for any input! Undergrad: UNC Chapel Hill Major: Math (BA) GPA: Overall - 3.97, Major 4.0 GRE: Haven't taken yet. I anticipate close to perfect on the quantitative. Around 160 for the verbal. Research Experience: I worked in a Fluids Lab as an intern, but mainly performing the actual experiments, rather than participating in any publications, etc. Relevant ECs: Tutored in the math help center, took a peer tutoring course Side note: I'm graduating in three years, so that's why I don't have any type of thesis. Schools I'm applying to: NCSU (my goal), UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, and considering UNC Chapel Hill (though I recognize the difficulty). Thanks for your input!
