  1. At least with the joint Institute of French Studies program, I was told that my research interests and CV were of high interest, but I was not in the top 2 out of the 50 applications they received. The MA would be really nice, though it would put me in a totally different financial situation, so I'll see how the rest of the decisions play out. The director was hesitant to say that this program makes it easier to reapply to the PhD program, but a few people have had success with that in the past 3-4 years.
  2. I should specify that I applied for the joint PhD with the Institute of French Studies. I didn't put that in the rejection result that I entered. As mentioned, the one year M.A. would indeed be with this program.
  3. Wasn't able to confirm much, except 50% tuition waiver. The program with the Institute of French Studies would really suit me well. Fall and spring in NYC, then the summer in Paris. Not a bad option to get the degree then apply to PhD programs/reevaluate professional goals. Of course, the amount of loans I would need to do this would not be ideal...
  4. Michelle, I actually just got off the phone with NYU. It was a call to inform me that they were very interested but can't offer me a place in the PhD program. I was offered to consider the 1 year M.A. program and have some time to think about that. It was a very nice 25 minute conversation. Not sure if that's good news or bad news, but it's news to think about, I guess!
  5. Thanks very much for this information, À_nous_deux. I will definitely keep the advisor information in mind over the next few months, and I want to check out the book, as well. And great work, Michelle! My cousin is a grad student at IU. I really like the campus, and it's obviously a fantastic place to be for French Linguistics!
  6. Hi Kenneth, I was expecting to hear back from them by now, as some people already have, but I haven't contacted them. Their grad secretary has been very polite, and she was very nice at my Berkeley visit last fall. Based off of previous years, we have to be getting quite close.
  7. Allez, Michelle! I also hear you on the interests shifting. I haven't had drastic changes, but some of my apps were done in October, feels like a long time ago!
  8. I visited with a few profs at UCLA in September and was impressed, though the fit wasn't right for me. It's a snow day in the French Alps, more time for me to check the emails and forum. Hope the week gets off to a good start, tout le monde!
  9. Nothing to report on the French front. Hoping more programs get in touch with me next week. That's the same thing I said last week, hah! I'm going to sneak into a salon de thé and take my mind off of things.
  10. I echo the same sentiments. Great to hear about the interview, Michelle! Seems like a good step in the right direction. And donzelle, I hope you find a way to make it all work out, because you've clearly been accepted to two of the best programs in the country! Congrats!
  11. Hah yes, I just want answers, regardless of what they may be. I know you're kidding, but I have to say I like that "dissiper l'angoisse" line, I have to get those words in my vocabulary!
  12. Michelle, I'm just anxious in general about things hah, but I really would love to stay here and pursue a Master 1 and 2 at Lyon. There are just so many options coming out of undergrad and waiting for these responses. Eh voilà, ça commence avec Columbia, I'm still waiting to hear back from them.
  13. I'm in France as a teaching assistant, and not a day goes by without a few visits to Word Reference!
  14. Tell me about it, sandie! My teaching assistant job in France is doing a nice job of distracting me during this waiting period, but I'm still always looking at back-up plans and future possibilities. It'll all make sense soon enough, right?
  15. Merci ! Yes, c'est une belle ville. Pas mal comme plan B ou C.
  16. Doing alright, was hoping this week would bring more decisions. It certainly looks like that's the case for several people. Hearing back from Berkeley any minute now would be really nice! I do have a Skype interview today with a professor at Lyon 2 for a Master in FLE over here. Could be a good option if the decisions don't work out with the American universities.
  17. Congrats!! That is excellent news from an excellent program!
  18. I don't think anything happens on the weekends, not 100% sure. And yes, next week should come with better news!
  19. On the other side of the coin, looks like a good day for UCLA French applicants! I had a nice visit there in September, but I didn't apply. Wj2011-Good to hear about Penn State, certainly seems like there are a lot of options there for cultural studies and other research.
  20. Certainly seems like activity is picking up. I also received a rejection email from Michigan yesterday, so I'm obviously hoping for better results in the next few days/weeks.
  21. Congrats, sandie! From what I've heard about UT Austin from family/friends, it seems like a great place! I was also not involved on that Penn State result, and I didn't hear from Northwestern yesterday. Here's to a relaxing weekend and we'll see what early February brings.
  22. Best of luck! Shouldn't be long before some responses start coming in. I know that Northwestern is sending out interview invites next week.
  23. Yes, I wanted to be in Aix-Marseille or Montpellier, but TAPIF put me in the Académie de Grenoble. I must say that it is quite fun, and high school teaching will be my plan B if admissions don't work out next year. The salary is OK to live on, but Annecy is a very expensive city. Best of luck to you, too. It would be great to be at Berkeley next year. I really enjoyed it when I went to visit. Definitely keep in touch next spring.
  24. Hi Michelle, I have finished applying to the 7 schools listed in my signature, and I'm hoping that my stay as a teaching assistant in Annecy will keep me from constantly checking emails and playing the waiting game. Nice to know that someone else is on here for 2013!
