  1. And if memory serves me Emerson, Harvard, Berklee, MIT....etc etc. A pretty sweet deal. Not sure about the extent but it certainly makes for interesting opportunities! Have you ever had the opportunity to take advantage? I'd be interested I knowing how "freely flowing" the consortium really is.
  2. I apologize to Postmodernism for calling it dead. It is insensitive of me for announcing such an opinion. I've reported myself to the moderators and have said 10 hail Mary's...(20 or 30 would just be overkill) How dare you put that kitten in a snifter! A stemless wine glass would be safer...I'm reporting your IP to PETA. Now let's see who calls this harmless sarcasm or mean-spirited snarkiness...
  3. And this is the problem that the moderators are dealing with. Stop taking issue with tiny, nsignificant bullshit. I'm trying to be supportive and give you information about a school that we've both applied to. I'm not saying you applied to a bunch of schools and haphazardly spent your money. Jesus...when did people become so touchy? Read the post again...realize I'm talking about people who apply everywhere and take up acceptance spots, waitlists, etc and make people like us sweat it out because we have to wait for them to relinquish space for us...I need to stop reading these forums. It's apparent many of you haven't been in the field for very long and, perhaps, need to understand the nature of the beast a bit more.
  4. A bit of a lofty statement? I'd argue BU's poetry faculty is much better...IMO at least. Regardless, congrats. I'd love to have options.
  5. Some more news... Acceptances at Boston College have been related to "winning the lottery" from the department there. 4 acceptances from 400 applicants. And Tufts will be responding this weekend...acceptances by phone, waitlists by email. And, although I'm probably the only one here applying to UNH, those posts are going out first week of March. My expectations are low...very low...so at this point I'm not afraid of rejection.
  6. Girl who wears glasses, to be fair Dr. Irr also said she's not on the committee this year and she was basing her response on what usually happens. I'm willing to bet we're not on the initial waitlist, but there's potential that we haven't been denied because there could be a secondary waitlist. When you have people applying to 10, 12, 18 programs...I mean Jesus, it's basically throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks at that point, isn't it? It costs about $100 per program to apply all in, so at what point is it desperation and you're filling spots? These programs know this, just some prepare better than others. I guess what I'm saying is, if you accept 10, for example, and have a 10 person waitlist, you also need backup to that. Chances are that 4 or 5 of the 10 will go elsewhere and 6-8 of your waitlist is going elsewhere...Get my drift? Long story short, spend $1500 bucks on applications and chances are good things will happen to you! Still hope for us until that letter comes in the mail...
  7. I broke down and emailed 4 of the 5 programs I've applied to...3 of the 4 were department heads...there, I've broken the seal. Time for me to get pissed on.
  8. I wanna say this thread is almost at full Teletubby capacity...
  9. Anyone in particular you contacted? I want to send some emails, but know how burdensome it can be.
  10. Anyone read how that waitlist at Brandeis happened? "Other" is such a terrible option, especially considering how neurotic we are in the first place.
  11. Not a peep from 3, no wait lists from 1, and still a major MA outpouring from another...I'd like to be put out of my misery, thanks!
  12. Rather than take someone's "experience" to heart, look it up...last year was "D-Day" for Brown and UMass-Amherst...so no, they don't necessarily take the day off. There's no set rule to anything. Don't be surprised when people hear from schools tomorrow.
  13. Lucke1984, did your sage status change for Brandeis? *begin neurotic questioning*
  14. Everything was fine with me until I started obsessively checking the results board and reading these threads. Anyone else? My wife wants to kill me for checking all of this so often...then someone goes and posts a random Brandeis acceptance, which must be BS, and now I'm a basket case...
  15. Excuse #1 Valentine's food coma Excuse #2 iPad typing Excuse #3 Weary as all hell I meant "The Bobs" of Office Space fame...statistics show Friday is the best day of the week to fire someone...I need to be put out of my misery, long story short.
  16. Geez, for a week notorious for notifications this silence is murder. Maybe tomorrow will prove The Bob's right about Fridays?
  17. I don't know what's worse, knowing most of your responses by now or none. My wife hates it when I check the results page because she can see the agonizing frustration on my face. But hell, that's part of the reason I come on! Brandeis responded last year this week to most...odds they'll repeat? Anyone know about their funding? I honestly think I'm a good fit, especially with the high population of poets (I have an MFA and research interests) and culture specialists.
  18. Let's face it, now that we know Keely is white we simply hate them because they have a good work ethic and got accepted everywhere. Oh, and no one gives a shit about their research interests. Now who's trolling, eh? Eh?!
  19. Come on guys, don't make me feel bad about my revolutionary paper on how memes are the new communicative medium. You'll kill my syllabus proposal for Fall.
  20. To what? We're all looking out for #1 around here. We've all experienced triumph and rejection. If you take anything personally at this level you're in dire need of more experience. And I don't mean you, you know...that "you"...you know what I mean.
  21. Not to sound heartless, but "blah blah fucking blah". You'd figure people at this stage in academia would have thicker skin.
  22. Plan B seems to be current life, really... I've managed to hash out a decent adjunct living, though it kills all creative spirit. I teach around 12-14 adjunct sections all year, which makes for a decent living. I'd attempt to write and publish more, though...maybe write a new sample, as the current one is a bit of a stretch as it is. Simplify, simplify, simplify...hard to do while married and pushing 30 I think. Hopefully I won't have to find out!
  23. I'm really wondering if my teaching experience is going to do anything for me at this point, especially with all of this "malleable" talk. I haven't had time, to say the least, for writing much or publications since graduating from my MFA, but I have teaching experience through the roof. Thoughts? Some apps, like for UNH, really focus on asking about your teaching possibilities.
  24. So obviously at this point no acceptance or wait list means sayonara. Anyone know if they offer any funding with possible MA offers? I can't even consider paying another dime for education...bad enough we're shelling out 100 per school for apps and GRE reports etc.
