  1. Congrats Jmarti. All the waiting is now starting to pay off. I absolutely loved USC when I visited for a possible ungrad school. Isn't nice to have some choices?
  2. Jmarti37, I am just now getting around to reading the forum. A huge congratulations to you. You really do deserve (as does everyone else on here). But, you have been so supportive of everyone while having to wait on USF dragging their feet. Congrats and good luck.
  3. Declined University of Nebraska Kearney. Sent an email today. Accepted University of Nebraska Omaha and that is 100% where I will attend. Good luck for those on the UNK wait list. Hope you get in.
  4. Got accepted to grad program in Speech-Language Pathology. Can anyone tell me anything about the city? I have looked at craigslist for apartments, but it seems the area around the university is kind of sketchy. Anyone else going to the university? What are your thoughts? How easy is it to get around via public transportation? I will not have a car for my first semester there. Any recommendations as far as apartments go? Any rental agencies to avoid? I would appreciate any information at all. Thanks
  5. Congrats. I grew up not far from UF. What a great university and town to live in.
  6. I agree with midnight streetlight. You have to make sure that you are competitive. How are your grades in SLP? What was your GPA like for your first degree? If it was low, maybe address it in your SOP. Also, after picking a list of schools that are a good fit for you, narrow them down to ones where people with stats similar to your stats were admitted. It may mean moving (if that is an option) or applying to smaller schools, but the end result is the same. Also, make sure the schools know who you are. Call them prior to applying. Find out what research they are interested in. Do as much as you can to stand out.
  7. I had just returned from dropping our son off at preschool. Had to read the email three times to make sure it was real and I really understood it. Was originally put on the wait list, so I was more than ecstatic.
  8. For those on a wait list, stay positive. I just received notice that I was accepted off the wait list for the University of Nebraska Omaha. I will be declining my other acceptance from the University of Nebraska Kearney. Someone one the wait list at UNK should get in. Good luck everyone. Now to figure out how I am supposed to study for the rest of the day.
  9. I thought I would create this so that we could start contacting eachother prior begining graduate school. Let's keep this topic CLEAN. No replies. Just list where you will be attending. If you were accepted to more than one school, list the ones that you will be declining so those on the wait list can stay opptimistic. I will be attending University of Nebraska Kearney unless I am accepted off the wait list at University of Nebraska Omaha. At which point, I will decline University of Nebraska Kearney.
  10. Congrats on ENMU. It was my fall back school as well and I was rejected. Apparently I didn't have enough pre-reqs finished. Was told to send in my application again next years once I had at least 75% of them finished. Always amazes me that there are really no fall back schools for SLPs.
  11. Nice. Did you like your time here? I love it here and so does my son. My wife is from here so of course she is ready to leave.
  12. I am sure that the poster who addressed the professor by his/her first name is pretty upset with themselves right now. I am sure it was just a slip. I wish him/her luck with what ever schools they have remaining. I just hope they didn't make this mistake with all of their applications or emails to schools. I was accepted to the same university and I have nothing but positive experiences with the professors and the graduate school in general.
  13. Wow. Good for you. That is amazing. How were your essays and letters of rec?
  14. Next to Louisianna, I think they have the highest French speaking population. Beautiful states too.
  15. Everyone has given you great advice. While no one is exactly in your shoes, I am pretty close. I am an older applicant. I didn't have a high GPA for my first BA degree. I knew that my low GPA would hurt my chances of getting into grad school. I applied to Utah State University's 2nd BS degree program in communication disorders. I made sure that I made all A's. It has taken me 4 semesters to finish my classes. I also spent six months studying for the GRE. It meant neglecting my wife, son and friends, on many occasions. I did quite well on it (it was worth it in hindsight). I also found a volunteer position at a hospital that would allow me to work with clients with speech disorders. I was in constant contact with my professors and made sure that the chief physician new me and my work ethic at the hospital. I got five beautiful letters of recommendation out of this. I used the university writing lab to help me with all of my application essays. I took the time to talk to the department head as well as whomever was in charge on the graduate committee. I found out what their areas of interest and research were and wrote me essays around those areas of interest. I had professors and former grad students read them and critique them. This feedback, I feel, made my letters really stand out. Finally, I used this forum to help me decide on which schools to apply. I didn't think that I could get accepted to top programs so I used the results feature to find acceptances with GPAs and GRE scores similar to mine. I have been put on one wait list and have one acceptance. Be open about where you can go to school. It is only two years out of your life. As of right now, I will be going to a school in the middle of nowhere and my wife (who is a minority) will stick out. But even she says that it is only for two years. Good luck and don't give up.
