  1. Also agreed. However if there's a legit concern people should not be afraid to call. I tortured myself for a few days before mustering up the courage to call about my app and it turned out they had forgotten to send me the email saying my application was completed and had reviewed me weeks ago.
  2. Well its -7 with the windchill. So it's actually much worse. Still not nearly as bad as it can get though. February is warmer than January though. Although any day can be super freezing.
  3. It's already up to 2 degrees here today. It's gonna be a scorcher!
  4. Neither. To confirm that my application was completed and they had it. I had never gotten a completion or an incomplete email so I was in limbo. Their application was only due Jan 1, and the email she sent said decisions would be sent out in late January aka the next 2 weeks.
  5. I called the school I hadn't heard from even though it said not to call with individuals requests and it turns out they forgot to send me the email weeks ago. So... Just adds evidence to the old idea that if you don't know, just call. It's such a relief. That was my favorite school.

  7. I applied to Northwestern DGP as well. I saw an invite went out in the results, but also a rejection went out. It seems that they send out a few waves. I doubt they would have gone through all their apps. When I emailed them with my semester grades around Christmas they said they hadn't even reviewed my application yet. That's how I felt as well, but I submitted my application Dec 18th and I haven't heard anything about it being completed or missing something(it's not missing anything, but what if it is). The radio silence is bothering me.
  8. Ouch... I have been saving knowing that I might need them for interviews. If I don't need them then I guess I'll go on a vacation to drown my sorrows Haha.
  9. Ah that stinks. My work is supportive of me going after my PhD. They wrote me a super awesome letter of rec. Still, gotta save up that PTO.
  10. So I applied to a program and got an email that my application was complete cause I was missing a letter of rec, which I knew. He submitted the letter before the deadline and it says it was submitted, so everything was fine. The email said when they receive the missing stuff they will email me saying my application is complete, or they will email me saying I am still missing stuff, and not to email them about the status of my application. However, the deadline was Dec 30, and I still haven't gotten an email saying it's complete. Could they still be processing the applications? Do you think I should call and ask?
  11. I just imagine someone calling in a fake voice and them being like "Ya... We know it's you. Stop calling." and then awkward pause till you hangup the phone.
  12. I'll openly answer this. I got rejected post interview. One interview was a makeup and so they only had like 4 spots for 12 people or so. I fumbled a question there. The other school I contacted and found out why. I'm a shy person at first and I guess that translated to me not being interested in science. They weren't convinced that I would stick it out for my PhD. To me, that was a huge shock because I freaking love science. The professor who told me that later agreed with me saying my passion was quite clear once he got to know me. So, you never know. They could deduce something you don't even know you are expressing. I hope my passion for science comes through more clearly this time a round. And that I'm not such an awkward scientist.
  13. We were both friendly. Chatted a little, and went to sleep. It wasn't a big deal but we were both chill people. We never really looked at each other as competitors. I mean you're so busy you're basically just going there to sleep at the end of the day.
  14. In my two interviews I shared a room with someone in both.
  15. Well I gotta say, not being rejected or admitted is a lot better than being rejected Haha. I think the implied "wait list" was due to the other programs they have gotten interviews at. There may not even be a wait list. They may have gone through 50 applications and either offered invites and rejected the rest in that group, and your application was never even reviewed yet. Or they could offer 10, reject 20, and roll the next 10 over into the next group because they don't know how the rest of the apps will turn out. Who knows.
  16. Any news on Northwestern DGP? I've seen some interviews right after apps were due, and today I saw a rejection. I have gotten neither.
  17. So I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. No rejections, no interviews. No nothin. 3 of my 8 applications were due on the 1st though, so there's that.
  18. What is up with schools releasing invites before their due dates? Seems strange to me. Congrats! Btw is it the first weekend in March? Every year they make it over that weekend and I don't understand why. It's the weekend of one of the biggest parties in the country and the population is at least 2x as big as normal. The school also hates it, so I'm surprised they would want to showcase that.
  19. Which program did you apply to? I'm having difficulties determining the difference between the Biology PhD program and the Biomedical PhD program. The Biomedical one is more in line with my background but has like 5 professors in it.
  20. All I want for Christmas is an interview. Maybe Santa will come early this week.
  21. Which program? Their due date for me isn't till Dec 20th.
  22. Check out the surveys, but note that Notre Dame moved their deadline up from last year from Jan 1 to Dec 1, so the survey may not be accurate.
  23. For anyone that applied to Northwestern DGP, they told me today that their admissions committe would be reviewing applications soon, so that means they haven't even started, so don't sweat that one at all.
  24. I didn't get one either. Based off past years it looks like they sent out another wave in January.
  25. So I got my semester grades back. I got Bs (B+ but my school doesn't have +/-) so my GPA went down from a 4.0 to a 3.5. If I send in my updated transcripts, it will still raise my overall GPA, but does 6 credits at a 4.0 look better than 12 credits at a 3.5?
