  1. Dear Germany, My day hasn't been that great so far. I'm stressed. Given this, I know, in your compassion, you'll decide to offer me a grant today. Right? ...
  2. Convenient... I wouldn't be surprised if that's on purpose, so that she doesn't have to respond to questions like that.
  3. Will today be the day for Germany?
  4. That chart is much more friendly than the one my home university in the States uses. For example, although I did manage one 1,0, I received a 1,3, which was considered A-, and 1,7, which was considered B... Yet both of those scores would be considered ausgezeichnet in Germany. And considering how easy an A can be at my home university...but I digress. (I did get a 2,3 as well, but that was an oral exam and I was very very nervous).
  5. x1,000,000,000 I know that I had many very good grades I earned in Germany changed to P/F on my transcripts, because their American translation seemed relatively low (for example, the highest possible grade for one class - mere points from a perfect score - translated to an A-). I had the grades in B- range changed, which was frustrating because I was an American student studying in German masters courses abroad - and I still scored at what my German friends consider more than respectable.
  6. Faculty: How likely is your department to defer admission for something like Fulbright? I've heard very different responses from different faculty members, sometimes in the same schools.
  7. Anyone in Comparative planning on turning down Pitt?
  8. Thanks! Nothing was mentioned about funding, so I'm not too positive on that front... I did receive a scholarship for the MA portion though. Hoping for the best, none the less! It feels so good to be in somewhere finally.
  9. I'm not sure. I know I applied for a dual program, and had gotten into the "dual" half... maybe that played a role? Still very excited. For those who asked, I originally heard from the MA program I was accepted to dual in. This was followed a few hours later by a letter from the Department of Government. Very excited!
  10. Just got news that I've been accepted at Georgetown!
  11. When can we expect GTown rejections?
  12. MAGES at Georgetown a go. Waiting to hear from their Ph.D. Government admissions still though.
  13. GTown has only alerted 3 people so far. Last year had far more.
  14. I've never heard of "rejected off waitlist." Weird. Sorry. Edit: By that I mean, I didn't realize we could lose after being allowed to hang on a hook.
  15. I know the MAGES admissions committee was meeting last Friday (with decisions expected this week), so final decisions were probably also being made by the political science department at the same time. *fingers crossed*
  16. Do we think UNC will reject today, or wait a while longer still?
  17. +1,000,000,000 The only thing my research frequently has in common with a single individual in the department (my adviser) is the geographic location. It's a shot in the dark sometimes trying to find help. On the other hand, it's also forced me to explain my research to people with decades of research experience, which can't be bad for my own learning process.
  18. If you do, let us know. I'm tempted to write, but choosing not to. As long as I haven't been rejected there's still hope.
  19. Did whoever claimed the UNC rejection get an e-mail saying that everyone who hasn't heard back is not admitted?
  20. I'm asking when they'll show mercy and let us all know yay or nay.
  21. When can we expect UNC to show some mercy?
  22. That may not be all that off, as students will usually apply to a range of schools. I imagine most of the data they base this on is self-reported via the application.
  23. Same for me as far as Cornell and UNC go.
