  1. Hi Ninale15, I was just reading your post and wanted to ask why/how you know that Columbia and NYU "accept anyone"? I've just gotten accepted to NYU, $8,000 scholarship, preparing for admissions interview at Hunter next week and have a pretty good feeling that I will hear back from Fordham with a positive. I'm asking you about this because on the one hand, I love the location and clinical strength of NYU, but if I get that acceptance letter from Hunter after my interview, there's no question that the $$ question comes into play. I would, of course, like to think that my overall application was what got me into these schools, which are supposed to be highly competitive, but I would also be concerned about going to a school who just accept anyone who can pay for it (assuming that is what you mean, but not sure). Anyway, it really is a serious question and I really would like to know how you know this, because it is a huge decision and I wouldn't want to be seen out in the field as someone who went to NYU, but they accept anyone. I know of people who have been rejected to these programs, so there has to be some criteria used to accept or reject. Thanks so much.
  2. I will probably be seeing you there! Still waiting to hear from Fordham and see if they also give me some scholarship funds, and interview with Hunter is coming up soon. Will keep u posted since we may very well be classmates!
  3. There ya go! Congrats!! R u going to choose NYU then?
  4. Hey SammR, Congrats! I did my undergrad at Fordham and it is a great school, very helpful staff/administration and the surrounding location is awesome! Did u receive your acceptance today??
  5. So, I have applied to these three schools. Now that I have been accepted to one and pending interview for another, it has become very real that I have to make the best decision possible. For this discussion, I am going to not consider finances (I'll have to end up getting a loan anyways), but rather, I would love to share thoughts/perceptions on these three top programs. I know that NYU is extremely strong for clinical, and that is a huge component for me. However, I am personally very interested in a program such as the one that Fordham offers, which allows you to learn/field practice on the clinical side, as well as learn about supervisory/managerial side of SW. I like the diversity of this path offering, so I am crossing my fingers that I get an acceptance from them so that I can really consider further. With respect to Hunter, I read on another forum that from this person's experience, Hunter and Fordham are very similar, but didn't elaborate further. In doing my own research, yes, of course there are similarities in terms of the offerings, but I am wondering if anyone would like to share what measures you are using to compare (other than financial) and why a particular school is of preference. So what are your thoughts and perceptions about any or all of these three schools?
  6. It's in a couple of weeks!
  7. Hey guys! Just heard from hunter today- I'm interviewing!! Phew!
  8. Hey guys, got interview at hunter now, so don't lose hope- I was starting to think I was being wait-listed or not hear anything until May, but it's moving along. Positive thoughts!
  9. LOL, me too! Checking at least 3 times per day! I got $8,000. I would be very happy to attend any of the schools to be honest with you, but Fordham offers a particular path that I like because it allows you to learn/experience both clinical and administrative/macro side of SW. That is very attractive to me. Good luck to you as well!!
  10. Hi guys- Just checking back in to see how things are going along. I just got my first acceptance letter from NYU and now it is REAL! No more wondering if my personal statement was good enough, if my grades weren't enough, if I'm too old to be accepted anywhere! :-) So now I start wondering how this will change the dynamics of our family structure- not in a bad way, but just will have to start planning for baby to get picked up- dinner for the family and how to balance it all. But I'm not going to stress about it, just going to plan for it and take it from there.
  11. Just got my acceptance notification from NYU Silver! They sent an email stating that that decision is ready to view and to logon to the application page. This has definitely made my anxiety level go down a whole bunch. 4 weeks from date of the letter to accept or decline. Still waiting to hear from Fordham and Hunter. :-)
  12. Nothing yet, and I am wondering if I am just "wait listed" at this point. Someone else for their app in back in Sept but didn't get an interview until just this week, so not sure how they are making decisions. Anywhoo, there's nothing to do other than just wait. Good luck on your interview!!!
  13. Congratulations on the interview!! Just curious, when did you apply?
  14. Well, I applied in December for Fall, so considering what you're saying and others, I probably won't hear back for a while... unless they look at my app and say "Ummmm, No thanks!!" and let me know sooner So, even though I can't honestly say that I won't check twice a day, I at least won't really expect to find anything. It has helped the anxiety levels to know how long they are taking though. Good luck to everyone!!
  15. I inquired with Hunter last week and the response was that they began reviewing on February 1st, applications in the order received. May is the deadline that they are giving to respond, so sit back, relax and try not to be anxious about it, because they have A LOT of applications to review.
  16. I'm 41, mom to a 3yr old. Super excited and waiting to hear back!
  17. Congrats!! And thanks so much for letting us know about the time frame-- hope is back! :-)
  18. Got it..thanks and disregard my last reply... I realized right afterwards that you had indeed sent in September. That stinks!! OMG, so sorry that you have had to wait so long! But you're in three great schools already, so you have options, awesome!
  19. Let me rephrase-- I see that you got accepted on 1/29 so just curious if that application also got submitted in September? Long time to wait for a response if it did Thanks!
  20. I'm getting nervous too, loosing hope actually. I called them today and asked a general question about my situation without providing a name. Basically, my application status says completed as of 1/10, but I noticed that the status to "in for review" changed somewhere around 1/25 or so. The person from their office said that it is basically a 6-8 week wait from the date that is says "completed". But, if others are hearing so much faster, it makes me think that I am either waitlisted or going to be rejected. I don't want to think negatively, but I do have to prepare myself psychologically...
  21. Agencies that they have worked at, but again, I think it really depends in the individual.
  22. It's a hard choice.. I suppose you can make it work with whatever path you choose but I have spoken to a couple of friends in the field and they say tell me that "people" like to see the private schools with your graduate degree. Who knows! I just want to get into one of the three that I applied to!! Nail bitting!
  23. Woohoo!! Congrats!
