Thanks for that Response Milky Ways. This is the scholarship I heard about. Or at least the fund that generates it. http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/alumni/giving-to-hunter/scholarship-welfare-fund
-
I have heard both. One side says that Hunter does not offer funding, and others have told me that they had been offered scholarships. When I went to the interview, the faculty went on an on about the various programs they had such as visiting artists that were funded via donations. I just find it weird that they are receiving these donations, yet aren't receiving any that are specifically ear marked for scholarships. I also wonder about the large number of international students that were interviewed. Being that they aren't able to receive financial aid or in state tuition, how are they expected to pay? It just seems weird to me. The only thing that makes me think it might be the case is the relative affordability of the program.

Hi everyone I am hearing rumors that we will begin to be contacted regarding funding offers and scholarships from Hunter? Has anyone else heard about this or been contacted by the school?
-
I haven't gotten the letter via snail mail either, but it will be great to have for your own records and memories. I am hearing rumors that we will begin to be contacted regarding funding offers and scholarships from Hunter? Has anyone else heard about this or been contacted by the school?

I think the universal deadline is April 15th, though often schools move it forward to get you to choose thirty school. Oddly, I have not seen Hunter push deadlines for acceptance or deposits. But then again I knew I was going as soon as I got the acceptance lol.

Wzhao sounds like you made your decision, you may just need to give yourself permission to follow through. But it's a big decision so you should think it over as much as you need to.

Yestoyeahhhh at the interview I was told that hunter accepts 48 in total 24 in the Fall and 24 in the Spring. I think the best way to think about it is that you don't know yet what their decision is, so expecting rejection may not be fair to you. I have not heard of anyone being wait listed from there, and I am sure there are people that may turn them down for Yale etc. Being international may be tough when it comes to residency and lack of financial aid, but I'm sure they don't expect you to write a check on the spot. Parsons is more expensive but you said to disregard tuition. They are both in NY but hunter is listed higher on INDEED. Being that you are a painter I think I would go with hunter because they are stronger as a painting program than as an overall art school.

I think a big part of it is that they have a reputation for being a highly competitive school for a very low tuition. That may be a part of the attitude the interviewer gave you. Hunter competes with schools that have 100k price tags. Even if you were to get a full ride at an expensive school, you may end up with loans for costs of living that are in the same ballpark as hunter tuition. Plus, it seems relatively easy to get in-state tuition.

I have heard this as well, but I recall someone in a previous year being offered a scholarship. On interview day I asked how people pay for school there and the answer was "financial aid". I was also told that many students work as art handlers.

Congratulations to everyone that has been accepted to Hunter! Are you planning on accepting the offer and attending for the upcoming year? I decided to create a post for those that are in case they would like to exchange contact /social networking information with each other. Moving to a new city, arranging funding, finding an apartment can be daunting, so I figured there should be an additional space to share info and support.

If you google hunter residency if links you to the forms for applying as a new York resident. The most valuable thing is to find an address to have certain mail sent to. Also, you should start the process during the summer because the one year of residency has to be completed before the semester starts.

Thanks Carter!

Hunter results are online!!!!!!

Yes, I got it. Took it to be a rejection letter/commercial

Thanks for the response Carterjohnson, I think you brought up some great points about Hunter. I think my interview went well. I stayed for the Open Studios after, which was great but a little exhausting. I hope that my work can be a fit for the program. There didn't seem to be a lot of people there doing figurative work, but then again, that seems to be the case at many schools. How did your interview go
-
The Hunter interview seemingly went well. There were multiple interviews going on simultaneously, so there were various personalities involved. Some of it is just the luck of the draw. I don't think that it means you didn't do well. I think it reflects more on the interviewer. It sounds like the ones that didn't seem to go well had similar experiences so it might have been the same guy interviewing you.
-
Good luck everyone!! We should bring name tags with our user names!! I hope those that finish early share their takes on the experience.
-
I got the email too. I hate the way they turned a rejection letter into an infomercial. It seems exploitative.
-
I had this same internal debate. I emailed the school about it, and they told me to bring work that showed me in the best light. Just because work is new, does not mean that it is better than what you submitted. The ten pieces you showed was already better than a lot of work you made over the past few years. Show the best work possible.

Hey guys that are Interviewing for Hunter, What are your check in times? it seems like there are some who are interviewing early in the afternoon and some who are interviewing later. I thought they met with all of the interviewees as a group first.
-
Hi, Carter Johnson. I wanted to ask this more about Hunter not offering funding. Would only mind giving more info/details about that. It would really help because I am introducing interviewing there.
-
Congratulations MMADAN you are on fire!!!!! Would you mind sharing your website? I am really curious about seeing your work.

I am a bit divided on this as well. The ten pieces we submitted in slide room were our best work over a period years. How much of your new work made in over 2 months would be better than the best of the past year or more ? I don't want to show worse pieces just because they are new
