  1. I'm sure this means you will probably get an acceptance, but this stresses me out as mine is still "referred to department"
  2. Congratulations! So excited for you it's crazy how none of us have ever actually met but have created such a strong support system! Now you can finally breathe and relax. No more stress, enjoy!
  3. I think getting an acceptance via actual mail is a lot more exciting than via email! haha But waitlists and rejections would be more practical via email.
  4. I'm also 21 so I'm worried that the amount of relevant experience isn't enough since it's so hard to go to school, work and volunteer! I'm keeping my expectations very low. I know either way I'll be disappointed if I don't get in but hyping it up in my head definitely won't benefit me. Fingers crossed for the both of us!
  5. Agreed! I applied to the health stream. What I'd like to do is individual, group, and family counselling to help people dealing with stressors in their lives. My professional experience form was 4 pages long, 3 of them including long-term employment/volunteer/practicum experience and one page of "Other" professional activities which basically contained any volunteering that didn't last for more than a day. I'm the most worried if I actually have enough volunteer experience in social services as some of them are only on a one hour a week basis but hopefully it'll be enough in the end since I have a pretty good GPA. What stream did you pick and how long was your professional experience form? I know what you mean! My stress levels have never been so high! I am very organized so it drives me crazy that I don't have any idea of what I'll be doing in the fall. I was the least stressed with waiting last week as I had enough school work to keep me busy but now there is a lull again so my mind is on overdrive. Luckily there are only about 4 weeks left, give or take
  6. Yah they said SIS but I'm sure they will both be updated since they are basically the same thing.
  7. I inquired about the application process for Windsor and they said that their aim is for the beginning of April. They also said that people with offers will get mail while those with rejections will only be emailed this year. Also, they said that it can take a couple months for the whole process to be complete since after the initial offers are sent out people are given two weeks to accept and they will obviously mail out more as people decline.
  8. Unrelated to this thread, but everyone should sign this petition! Very important for women's health http://www.change.org/petitions/the-government-of-ontario-revoke-the-new-pap-test-guideline-and-reinstate-the-old-ones
  9. Well tomorrow is March 1st, so that means only one more month! Give or take a few days. Almost there!
  10. So does anyone have a plan B, C, D, etc? Obviously Plan A is to make it into my top choice and Plan B is for my second choice. My Plan C was to take the year to do a lot more volunteer work until I reapply (if I don't get in). Last week I applied to an accelerated Child and Youth worker program out of sheer panic that I won't be getting in anywhere because I need to know I'll be doing something for the next year and a half haha, so that's plan D. Plan F is to travel.
  11. Beth, Someone in this thread previously mentioned that Laurier was ahead and like I've also mentioned before my friend in the one year stream got her acceptance relatively early!
  12. My first choice is Windsor. I already l live there so it would be extremely easy for me to commute. Also, I am currently attending Windsor already so I have knowledge on how their systems work and general information about the University. The only drawback to me is that the program is an ecological approach so you can't directly specialize in a certain area. Indirectly, they said that you can focus all of your research on one area so that you can bring a portfolio on that research to your future employers. It's just nerve-wracking that there is now only a a 7.67% chance of getting in since they only take 30 applicants and have had so many this year! I really want to get into Windsor because I've been researching it ever since I started my undergrad, not to mention it would be the most cost-beneficial for me! My second choice is Laurier. I have also been researching Laurier for a while and I really like that I can specialize in the Individual, Family, and Group stream of the program as that is the population I would want to work with most! I was also looking up their course descriptions and their courses look very interesting. The only downfall is that I would have to move and it would be very expensive for me to do that (along with getting a car as was previously mentioned). It's good that they take more students as there is a 16.7% chance of getting in but that also means it won't be as intimate of a learning setting. Ultimately, it's the living expenses that brings this to my second choice along with having to move away from my friends and family. The good news is that February is almost done and Lauier and Windsor are ahead on their selection process so I'm hoping it will be more of a late-March notice rather than early-April. Fingers crossed for everyone to get into their first choice!
  13. Laurier has sent out their advanced standing acceptances but nothing on the 2 year yet.
  14. That's what I'm hoping for. I've been planning on doing this since the second year of my psych degree and have been super organized. A fellow student in my classes asked what I was doing after I got my psych and English degree and I said the MSW and she decided right then and there that she'd try that too. I was so mad considering this has always been my plan and she just decided this! I'll be pretty upset if she gets in and I don't because I basically gave her the idea
  15. Anyone know how many applications Laurier got this year? Last year they had 500 for 90 spots.
  16. Well I am officially intimidated by everyone's levels of experience and now it makes me nervous for my application. Fingers crossed for good references and GPA to make up for it!
  17. Thank you and best of luck to you as well as everyone else on this forum. I went to Windsor's info session and they said acceptances can go out until the end of August as multiple rounds of acceptances go out as people turn them down. I'm the same way, I just want to know so I can plan for the future. I'm a very organized person so I hate not knowing! April can't come fast enough although the advanced standing acceptances have gone out already so hopefully the process will go by quickly now!
  18. Two days after the deadline I checked the status of my application which recorded my documents and stated "referred to the department." I didn't think much of this until a few weeks later people on my forum stated that their statuses had finally been recorded. I thought maybe this was because I dropped them off personally to the graduate office instead of mailing them that they recorded my application so early but a hopeful part of me is thinking it's maybe a good sign that it was referred to the department right away? Am I reading too much into this? Waiting is torture!
  19. Windsor takes 30 students and last year they had 180 applicants.
  20. That's weird that your status has only changed just recently. Mine was "referred to the department" a few days after I submitted it. Hopefully this means the process is moving along faster now!
  21. A friend of mine who applied to the One-Year Advanced Standing MSW at Windsor just got her acceptance via e-mail, so hopefully they will be looking at the two year programs soon!
  22. I’m unfortunately the same way. I would LOVE to get in obviously and I think my GPA is pretty good, but I am thinking that my volunteer experience won’t be enough. If anyone knows any employment like Beth said, or even volunteer experiences that would help me get in next year, please let me know! Right now I have doubts about getting in because the number of people who actually get accepted is so low. I’m trying not to get my hopes up and right now I’m looking for back up plans. I’m honestly such an organized person that if I don’t get in, it’s going to throw me right off so I’d like to have something to fall back to! It also makes it so much worse when the people you talk to about your worries always say, "your grades are good, you're going to get in!" That's why I love this forum because I feel like nobody else understands except those who are actually applying.
