Does anyone know what a typical class size is for the journalism program? Even a rough estimate would be helpful.

NYU is having an open house?
@seandrivescars: magazine writing! me!
That's what I'm talking about. I'm leaning NYU right now, but I still hope to visit Easter weekend.

I'm literally having the exact same dilemma. I got into NYU for writing and 'Cuse for Broadcast journalism. So really I have to just decide what I want to do with my life because NYU's writing I feel is stronger. However, I feel like Syracuse's broadcast program is better.

Hey guys, just saw this thread! Was accepted for Journalism a while ago. However, I also just got into Syracuse. So it's essentially 'Cuse vs. NYU.
NYU has a better name, but it's also quite expensive. At least I still have some time to decide :/.
In the meantime, Magazine Writing anyone?

I also have my smartphone to "beep" whenever an email is received.
I have never, EVER, been so angry at spam emails.
Me too, haha. I get a newsletter from a site I follow every night at 8pm. It took longer than I'd like to admit to expect the e-mail and not get my hopes up.

Definitely starting to lose it. All of my programs had very early deadlines, and based on the results page, no one else has heard back from them either. I called one of them to double check today, and was told decisions will be available at the END of March at the earliest.
I need a hobby.
Hobbies are absolutely whats needed haha! I bought a fixie just to give me something to do (and to ride next year)!
In unrelated news, got my third acceptance today. Nothing to see here.

Hello. That does sound confusing. I also applied to BU by the earliest admissions deadline and have not heard back as of yet. If you don't mind me asking, how were you notified? Was it through mail or e-mail?
Me too,but for journalism. also...what is msw?

Pitt student here. I have no clue to be honest, but I've been told that Pitt for grad school admissions tends to take its time.
hail to pitt!

I'm having a similar issue. I had two top choices, got accepted to one, and haven't heard from the other yet (although it appears no one has, so it's still a possibility). I'm so in love with the school where I got accepted, I'm losing my objectivity! My thesis advisor keeps telling me to remain open, and I understand all the reasons why, but is it really so bad to love a choice? Especially if I may never hear from the other one, whereas this one WANTS me?
I wouldn't say its bad to love a choice, so long as you don't obsess over it and see only things at that particular university, you know? let the love come later, after you've heard back from everywhere and you've visited the top choices!

If I get into one of the UC schools (applied to UCSD, UCSB, UCSC), I'll sell my current bike this summer before moving and then pick up one of these sometime in the fall:
For getting in anywhere else, I'll go "Yay!" and then have a glass of scotch.
Full rejections: just the scotch.
Now that's what I call a reward!
I'm dying to get/build a cafe racer or something like that depending on where I go. But I'll probably only be able to buy something for my Jetta instead.

Anyone feel like a school is messing with them? I haven't received an official decision yet, but hofstra e-mails me yesterday to set up like an official e-mail address and stuff through their online student portal (a website aside from the one you apply on and can still log into to check your application). It was sent from like their computing department I guess. It even began with "Welcome to Hofstra University!"
Buuuut....I still haven't received official word on my status yet...so I really don't know what to make of this, I guess it's not a bad thing which is nice?

That's awesome news, I wish I would hear anything...at all...but alas I keep waiting.
Is a PhD in Journalism/Mass Comm unnecessary?

Hey all,
I'll be wrapping up my Master's in Journalism at NYU this December and have been kicking around looking for a PhD in the field. However, before I do, I wanted to reach out and make sure it's not superfluous.
I enjoy long-form journalism and hope to write for a niche men's interest publication, but I've always been told that I'd make a great professor. Would a PhD put me too much into the teaching category or would it also let me pursue my interests of writing for a magazine or web publication?
Thanks in advance!
