A HA! They have denied me. It's cool, I'm happy to be moving on with making my decision. Must have been a tough year, I thought I was pretty well qualified, at least to get an interview! But you never know. Accepted to Fordham and Teachers College Rejected from NYU and Columbia Interviewed and waiting at CUNY Brooklyn College. Hope everyone had a successful application process!

Hi! I know this is an exhausted point already, but has anyone heard from Columbia yet? I have heard from all of my other schools, and am ready to make my decision. Columbia was the first application due, and by far the last to respond.

Hi! I received my MA in general psych from Hunter. When I got out of my undergraduate program, I did not at all feel prepared to apply for my Ph.D., and didn't have any research experience yet. So I enrolled in the MA program at Hunter, and completed that while working full-time in research. I enjoyed the program, it definitely helped me to feel prepared to apply to Ph.D. programs, which I've now done (rather successfully- 3 acceptances/ interviews out of 4 applications so far, and one program I haven't heard back from yet). I was matriculated, but there were several people in my program who either started as non-matriculating and later matriculated, and some who just took some classes. It's tricky deciding whether to jump right into a Ph.D. or to do your Master's first- the MA was the right decision for me. I am better prepared to enter a Ph.D. program, and CUNY is very inexpensive, so it will not cost me too much more in the end (perhaps it will even end up saving me money, if I end up with good financial aid from my Ph.D. program, and will likely be able to transfer some of my credits). If you plan to take some time off anyway before you apply for your Ph.D., I definitely think it might be a good idea to take some graduate level classes. My work actually paid some of my tuition, since my classes were related to my job. So in the end, I spent a little money and time, in exchange for strengthening my application for my Ph.D. Weigh your options, for me this was the right course, but everyone's situation is different. Keep in mind that New School is rather costly! But I have no experience with that program, only Hunter. Let me know if you have any questions about Hunter, I'd be happy to help

From the looks of the results post, they're doing this to a lot of programs. I've heard nothing from them about the Psych Ph.D. program, and the deadline was Dec 1st!

Hi everyone I have an interview tomorrow, a group one where we will tour the campus and meet with several faculty members. There are several faculty members that I would be very happy to work with- some who work on topics that I have much experience with, and others that are just very interesting to me but I don't have much experience with. My question - what should I say when they ask me who I want to work with? Does it look bad to say that I am interested in quite a few of the labs? Thanks!!
-
I had been hoping to work with Dr. Krauss or Dr. Metcalfe at Columbia, though there are quite a few that I'd be happy to work with. I believe they are on spring break this week, so hopefully I'll hear by next week. Do you know if they plan to have another interview day for wait-listers? I won't keep my hopes up Fastforward- I didn't realize you are international, then I guess you should be hearing from NYU any day now. I'm in New York, so of course it didn't take long to find me. I think it was last Monday, so hopefully you'll hear soon. Anyone planning to attend the open house at CUNY Brooklyn College for the Cognition, Brain, & Behavior program next Friday?
-
No reply from NYU yet, FastForward? I got my rejection last week. The envelope wasn't even sealed (maybe so snooping neighbors could experience my rejection with me?). Still no word from Columbia though. Sigh, those were my top two choices. Good luck next year!
-
Ha indeed. Looks like Fordham (Educational Psychology) or CUNY (Cognition, Brain, & Behavior- interview next week) for me! Where is everyone else going?
-
Yeah, I figure it's a rejection, I just wish they'd go ahead and tell me! I'm fairly sure they had interviews, and can't imagine that I've been accepted without an interview. It's ok, I have some good options, but would really like to know for sure what they all are before I go ahead and accept somewhere. Why do schools wait to reject? It seems silly that they hold on to rejection letters so long
-
Columbia? Hello, Columbia? Anyone heard from them? Good grief, if they've rejected me, I just want to know so that I can get on with figuring out what school to go to! Thanks all!
-
I just heard from CUNY's Cognition, Brain, & Behavior program, they are having an open house on March 28th. Anyone else here going?
-
I thought it might be helpful to see where people were declining offers, especially for those on waitlists. I'll likely be declining admission at Teachers College, in the Cognitive Studies in Education Ph.D. program.
-
Ouch, rejected by my first choice yesterday, and expecting a rejection from my second choice soon. Not even given an interview! I'd thought that between my top two choices, I'd at least get an interview from one. Good GREs/GPA, 5+ years research experience, and a master's degree, plus one of my letters of recommendation from a graduate of the school. Luckily I have been accepted to 2 others, though neither has decent financial aid. Thanks for hearing my rant, all you wonderful and frustrated fellow applicants
-
WUSTL has finally sent me their rejection. Boo. This was my top choice! FastForward- sorry to hear you're in the same boat. I have more that 5 years of research experience and a masters in psychology, and thought my GRE/GPA scores were certainly up to par for NYU, but still not even an interview. I'm sure research experience will help your applications if you reapply, but like everyone on this site says, you can never really be sure . Good luck! This sucks.
-
Let us know how it works out, FastForward. Good luck! I agree, I'm just ready to know now, so I can get on with my life, and start figuring out what I need to do!
-
Anyone hear from NYU yet? I've heard that they had interviews, and also that they are notoriously secretive about their admissions process. Could they be accepting anyone without an interview? If not, why wouldn't they have sent out rejections yet? Ahh going crazy waiting here.
-
I've been admitted to 2 of the programs I've applied to without an interview: Fordham's Educational Psychology Ph.D.program and Teachers College Cognitive Studies in Education Ph.D.program Still waiting (impatiently) to hear from NYU's Cognition and Perception program, Columbia's psychology program, and CUNY's Cognition, Brain, and Behavior program. Good luck everyone!

Has anyone here been accepted to the Teachers College Cognitive Studies in Education program, or the Fordham Educational Psychology program? I've been accepted to these two, and am still waiting on three more (CUNY's Cognition, Brain, Behavior program, Columbia's Psychology program, and NYU's Cognition and Perception program). If I don't get good news from Columbia or NYU, I'll have to figure out whether I'd rather go to Teachers College or Fordham, and have no idea which would be a better program. Still no word from Columbia or NYU for anyone?

Turns out that Teachers College is giving me until April 15th. Why they post earlier dates on their acceptance letters, I do not know. That should give me enough time to hear from the other schools. I still am curious about when I should expect to hear about funding, too. I'd like to know that info before accepting anywhere. When do people normally hear about aid, if it doesn't come with the letter?
-
To xyz- you might want to ask the schools where you've already been accepted if they can give you an extension, both of the schools I've been accepted to sent me alarmingly soon deadlines, but after talking to the departments, I was told I had much more time. I still have 3 schools to hear back from, and was worried that I wouldn't make the deadlines for schools I had been accepted to.... much less stress now.
-
I definitely will call, especially if it gets too close to the deadline... I just would like to have a better understanding of the April 15th resolution, what exactly it applies to (it reads like it is only relevant for financial aid offers).
-
I'd definitely recommend living outside of Manhattan; Queens and Brooklyn are great options, with lower rent. Brooklyn is especially great if you're going to NYU, it's an easy subway trip into downtown Manhattan. I'm hoping to get into their Psychology program, and plan to remain in Queens if I do, it's about a 30 minute commute from Astoria. Check out the mta site- http://www.mta.info, that will give you a better idea of where in Brooklyn you might want to live (NYU is 8th street on the Q/N/W line). Roommates are always a good idea in NY. I live with my boyfriend, in a small but comfortable 1 bedroom, both of us working full time, and we aren't rich, but we certainly don't go hungry. 35k should be a comfortable salary if you have even just 1 roommate who also works. If you get a chance to visit, that's the best way to get to know the neighborhoods. Not being a Brooklyn resident myself, I don't know that much, but even some good old internet searching should give you a good idea of what's best for you, what's close to the subway, what the rent prices are like, etc. Good luck!

Just a little more info, Teachers College is a part of Columbia University, but I'm still unsure as to whether they are a part of the CGS resolution. Ah! This whole process is driving me nuts.

Hi everyone, I'm a little confused about the whole April 15th deadline. I've received two acceptances. After the first one I spoke to my adviser, and he said that I actually had a year to accept. As for the other one (Teachers College), they gave me a deadline of March 15th, and haven't given me any idea about financial aid yet. I'll likely not have heard back from all my schools by then; NYU and Columbia Graduate Schools of Arts and Sciences (I'm a Psychology applicant) say they'll notify in mid to late March. Teachers College isn't listed on the Council of Graduate Schools list of colleges who have agreed to the April 15th deadline. Plus, the CGS resolution refers to financial aid more than just regular acceptance. What does it all mean? Do I have to accept everywhere (which would include sending them a non-refundable deposit) and then back out later? Should I contact Teachers College? Anyone with a better understanding of the CGS resolution, please help! Thanks! And good luck to everyone!

I applied to the cognition/ perception program at NYU, the psychology program at Columbia, the cognitive studies program at Teachers College, and the cognition, brain & behavior at CUNY Brooklyn- I haven't heard back from any yet. I was accepted to the educational psychology program at Fordham. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of these
