  1. You might be correct. That theory has certainly been advanced during prior cycles. I simply fail to see the logic in it. Put another way, I do not why they would necessarily notify their favorites first. After all, few individuals will likely make any decision regarding where they will attend until near the April 15th deadline. Perhaps they assume that an early notice might sway opinion? I don't know.
  2. Right. That would make sense. I certainly got the impression that Illinois had more offers to make. On the other hand, I have no sense of OSU's strategy here. It does seem that they are releasing acceptances in waves, however . . . though not field specific, which makes me wonder why they are notifying some before others. It is probably senseless to try to understand any of this, though.
  3. I would think that this week will bring more FSU notifications, along with updates from MSU, and Iowa (maybe). After writing this, I realized that many of the schools to which I applied will not notify from quite some time. (At least, according to the results board . . . ) How I yearn for the end of February!
  4. Well, the marginal cost of another app would clearly be low. Do you think any of the remaining programs would offer you either both a) a good fit or good training? If not, then it might be worthwile to sit tight, and wait for word from the other six programs to which you applied. While I understand the impulse to increase your chances of being admitted to any program, I would caution against it you have a particular interest in a late-deadline department.
  5. Congrats to you both! Davis seems to offer really good training, regardless of your specific subfield.
  6. "Not really holding my breath, I think it's more likely the neighbor kid will walk on the moon." Beautifully put. I think that perfectly encapsulates how I feel about my prospects of receiving an acceptance from Cornell. I might borrow this expression . . .
  7. Many congratulations to those who were accepted by FSU and OSU!
  8. Thanks! While I am not sure if subfield matters for fellowships, I applied in CP. At any rate, I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully, you will hear back from them soon.
  9. I would take this as good news. I applied to FSU but did not receive that email. So, it is certainly not something that they send to all applicants.
  10. Thank you both! I appreciate the positive energy that pervades this forum. It certainly stands in stark contrast to other online polisci-related sites.
  11. Well, I was apparently accepted at OSU. Please forgive the self-congratulatory nature of this post - it seemed rude not to post a follow up. Also, I claim one of the Illinois acceptances. I hope everyone receives good news this week!
  12. Well, I cannot object to that. If the situation were reversed, I would likely take the same point of view.
  13. It does. The status column now says 'Decision.' Well, I suppose that my disbelief might have been unwarranted. At any rate, I appreciate the responses I have received to my question. Thank you, all!
  14. No, it does not. It would have been posted today, though. I checked yesterday. Anyway, I now see that there is an Accept/Decline button next to the admission status link. So, perhaps this is legit. I still cannot help but be surprised, however. Particularly since the results page indicates that OSU does not notify this early . . .
  15. Yes, I plan on calling them as soon as they open. Thank you. I am relieved to hear that this sort of thing does happen, even if rarely.
  16. Has anyone checked their application with OSU recently? On a whim, I just looked. It says that I was admitted and that further information would come in the mail - but I do not believe it. It seems like someone would have sent me an email or called . . .. Has anyone else heard from them?
