  1. So from what I understand for assistantships they let departments within the school review the overall applications and choose or interview for postions from there. I was contacted last week about interviewing for a position so I assume that it is an ongoing decentralized process. I am also IS as opposed to LS -- so this might not be helpful at all. I am pretty frustrated with the lack of transparency/communication after admission but happy that somethings are seemingly moving along. I also know UNC is in the midst of finals at the moment so maybe more communications will come in early summer? I also know that last year they held a job fair for SILS grad students right before the semester started for on-campus employment some of which covers tuition (I think). PS I already live in the Chapel Hill area if people have questions about apartments etc.
  2. The only stuff I have heard is because I pester them. I am kind of frustrated with the lack of clear communication. I keep getting vague answers about funding.
  3. I was told that they are still working on merit based aid but with no timeline at all. Did anyone else get a UNC acceptance get a notice in their acceptance saying not to accept till you have received an official communication with very important information? I have asked around and no one seems to know a. what this is or b. when this official communication is coming. I don't know if this is standard or what.
  4. I don't have first hand experience but my husband is in the Phd program at UNC and went through this. His program asked that everyone apply for residency after their first year. He was told that as long as it appears that you are actually settling here (register you car and get an NC license when you move, change your mail, register to vote etc.) applying for residency is no problem. Also if you are married/have a family pretty much makes you a shoe-in. However, we still jumped all the hoops in our first couple weeks living here -- just to be on the safe side. I am not sure if there is a difference since that is a 5 year program and this is a 2 year program. SILS might have more information about how/if this even works.
  5. Chapel Hill is supposedly making financial decision mid-March and I am guessing they will let us know after that. I am assuming this is the story everywhere -- but I have heard there won't be much from SILS itself. On the other hand it seems like there are tons of on-campus jobs for SILS masters students some of which can cover tuition and insurance. At least that is the rumor on the streets of Chapel Hill.
  6. UNC grad coordinator says Information Science decisions should be out end of this week or beginning of next. Can someone please press the fast forward button now?!? And yes I caved. I couldn't make it till March 1st.
  7. I submitted Dec. 10th. I am making myself wait till March 1st before I go and bug the admin office. It is ridiculously hard walking by there everyday and not popping my head in to ask!
  8. Thanks you guys! Congrats to both of you. I am hoping they are doing IS separately with an Archives and Record Management concentration. I am actually a current SILS undergrad who really wants to stay put!
  9. Those of y'all who got into UNC -- was it for LS or IS? I am going crazy waiting.
