Fall 2014 applicants??
cbttcher replied to sugoionna's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Seriously, where are the Vanderbilt rejections?! -
Oh no! I asked Kristin Carnohan how hard it is to get into grad housing and she told me that the department nominated me for the priority list. I'd say just send her an email asking about housing.
-
Yes! I've been told I've been put on the priority list for grad housing so that would be okay. And I totally understand the ALL-THE-THINGS-RIGHT-NOW attitude because I'm the same. The only thing I'm worried about is that they haven't offered Brit Lit grad classes in the last few quarters but I could always take a reading/writing course or an undergrad course if I want to. I just really like their cultural studies focus. I lived on less in Massachusetts for a year but I don't know how well that compares. Unfortunately, I can't come to the campus visit. I'm in Germany and I just started a new job last month. It was hard enough to get a week off in April so that I can go to the PCA/ACA conference in Chicago. My university in Germany is UGLY. It's a city university so there's real campus and the buildings are from the 70s and regarding architecture, that decade really wasn't the best. So I don't mind if it's not that pretty. I think school spirit is a very American thing. We don't really have that here in Germany. I just hope I won't be unhappy there.

Thank you for your replies! I really love the program even though British lit is not their strength. The funding package is just not the greatest because I have to pay back a loan but I'd really love to go there. At least I'd have GOOD FOOD which is very important when I'm crying about a paper.

Congratulations!!! -
Does anyone have any experience with this program? I expect this to be my only acceptance and I honestly wouldn't mind that one bit but I would like to hear if someone has any insight on this program.

And there is the rejection from Michigan. Kind of a rude message though. Not even a "Dear..." or "Hello" -

I honestly would advise against contacting them already based on last year's results. You'll honestly find out soon enough. I know it's hard to wait but I wouldn't contact them right now. -

I thought they didn't make a habit of interviewing applicants... -

So Michigan apparently wants to torture people. In the Wolverine system is a new link "View Decision" and I clicked on it. And then it only says "A decision has been made. Your department will contact you with the decision." Seriously? Seriously?! SERIOUSLY?! -

Apparently, the school where I did my MA extended their deadline but I would contact them immediately.http://www.clarku.edu/graduate-admissions/apply/requirements/ma-english.cfm It's a small, private liberal arts college in Massachusetts. -

It's more like a combined program of BA and MA. As far as I know from friends, you have examination halfway through your studies which is about equal to my German BA degree and then you immediately go on with your studies. -

It's weird that they don't know because a lot of universities list the Staatsexamen as an admission requirement (or an MA) for German students. :| Did you notice that in the UNC application, when they ask for your country of residence, they offer the GDR as an option? -

That's what I did. I usually mentioned 3 or 4 people who I would like to work with and why. -

Thank you! Now I have at least one admit and can breathe somewhat freely. I actually think UCSD is the one school that fits my interests best because I don't want to give up cultural studies. -

BTW, what's up with Vanderbilt? I'd like to get that rejection out of the away.
