  1. I'm thinking about starting a blog to also give an insight into what it's like for an international student. But I don't know which platform to use.
  2. Am I really the only one heading to San Diego?
  3. Just a heads up. You're not allowed to work off campus in the first year as an F-1 student.
  4. It's the university wide training thingy I think. And then the departments have their own training.
  5. I think the tentative date is October 1st but I'm too lazy to check.
  6. Apparently, the Graduate Student Orientation is on September 18th and Grad Week is from September 15th to 19th.
  7. Well, it seems like you don't really want to work there anymore either way. You could always say that you didn't like your job anymore and left it because of that and not because you were so sure to get the Visa... If they even ask about your job that is...
  8. Same as TakeruK. I would go with the travel insurance. It's significantly less work to set up than short term insurance in the US.
  9. Check with the International Office at your school by when you have to be there and when the mandatory international orientation is. I'll probably arrive at my school a week to a week and a half before classes start. Last time I went two weeks before and that was too much time because I didn't meet any people because I was the first one there. I wouldn't go there too early.
  10. I had a copy of my student loan contract with me when applying for the visa. It said how much money I'd get each month and for how long and that was enough.
  11. Then you have until April 15th to decide. The ten days thing is just something they'd wish you do because they also need to plan. I wouldn't necessarily take until April 15th but you definitely have a couple more days. At least that's what I think.
  12. What's the deadline by which you have to respond? It should be somewhere in the acceptance letter.
  13. I had a loan and still got my F-1.
  14. Yayyy! It really is. I've only been to New England up until now so I'm really excited. Probably shortly before the quarter starts depending on when I get housing and stuff. When I went to get my MA in the US, I got there two weeks earlier which was the biggest mistake I made there I think. I was alone and didn't know anyone so I was pretty homesick and I'm not going to do that again.
  15. Scientists wouldn't be able to do this if it wasn't for people studying art history. They wouldn't even know these paintings existed. And apparently, you're just adding formula after formula in your thesis. Because humanities are useless and you don't need to be able to communicate clearly or see the bigger picture of your research. Have fun being stuck in a lab.
  16. Anyone else heading to La Jolla in the fall?
  17. I think there was something in the Computer Science forum or somewhere where they talked about this. I think it was Berkeley. Something along the lines of they don't usually accept international students (I'm guessing because of the costs) but let them apply anyways. People were pretty worked up about the wasted application fee. On another note, I got into a California school but I don't know how many other international students there actually are...
  18. The GRE Subject test is the most ridiculous thing in this world. A lot of schools already say that they don't want it anymore because it says nothing about you as a student.
