  1. Same here. I just want to know'
  2. I'm from Germany too! I'm guessing they'll contact us via email instead of calling.
  3. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get rejected across the board once more. :|
  4. Then there's also the other end of the spectrum with Boston University. Apparently, they only take one person who already has an MA each year. All other admitted students only have the BA. At least, that's what I heard about BU and I certainly didn't get in last year according to the 3(!) rejection mails/letters I got.
  5. You know what's annoying? When you check your app to see if they finally received everything and you click on "view your application." And then the first word is "Congratulations!" You get excited and are "Is this real life?!" and then you read on and they're just congratulating you that you submitted your application. :|
  6. Congratulations!
  7. Read. Read. Read. And watch movies/TV shows in English. That's what I did. While I was in the US, people were amazed to find out that I wasn't a native speaker and my professors told me that you hardly noticed English wasn't my native language.
  8. Not with 13 applications, but done as well. Now it's going to be a looooooooooong wait. :|
  9. I finally got a reply this morning my time (or 12:30 am EST) from one of the professors and he said that the graduate school requires the GRE. Luckily, I already sent it as a precaution. But it's really annoying that it's so unclear because the grad school website says that you only have to send the GRE General/Subject results if the department requires them. It's really confusing.
  10. It's not weird really. I just don't want to miss anything, you know?
  11. I just wanted to send my GRE results to UConn and now it doesn't say that they even want the GRE results? And now I'm scared that I'm missing something... Does anyone know anything about this? http://www.languages.uconn.edu/graduate/admissions.php That's one link with requirements. http://www.languages.uconn.edu/graduate/phd.php All the way at the bottom, there are requirements again.
  12. I forgot some prepositions in my SoP... In and of don't like me...
  13. Thanks so much for your input, guys! It's really helped a lot and I've decided not to retake the GRE.
  14. Hi! So, I'd just like to have some opinions. I'm unsure whether I should retake the GRE because I don't know if I'll actually score any better. Plus, I also have to take the TOEFL again because apparently, it doesn't matter that I spent the last year in the US and I can't speak English and that's a lot of money which I'd rather use to apply to one or two more grad schools. I scored 84th percentile on the verbal section last year and I just would like to hear some opinions on whether I should retake it or not. Thanks!
  15. Hi there! After last year, I've decided to branch out a little and apply to Comp. Lit. programs as well as English programs this year. I'm German and I majored in English and Italian in my undergrad (I also have my school French (7 years) and some basic knowledge in Swedish) and I also have 2 MA degrees in English (due to a cooperation between my university in Germany and an American university where I spent the last year). I'm very interested in Brandeis and the University of Michigan because I'm interested in Anglo-Jewish literature and I think those two would be a good fit. But I'm also looking at schools in California. My GRE wasn't that great (84th percentile in the verbal section) and I guess I have to retake it. Plus, I also have to retake the stupid TOEFL despite having an MA from a US university.
  16. Thank you both! I hope it'll work out this time.
  17. Thank you! Almost everything. My SOP and writing sample sucked because it was all too rushed and my GRE scores, both general and subject, really weren't that great. So, in April I'm going to start looking for universities because I'm definitely going to apply to more than five schools this round; I'll start working on my SOPs and WS; and I'm going to prepare to retake the GRE.
  18. So... Since all my applications have turned into official rejections, I'm going to join this thread. I'll definitely apply again next year.
  19. So... I still haven't heard anything from Boston College.... And I live only an hour away. Anyone else in the same situation?
  20. There's still this small sliver of hope even though I know that I don't have a chance in hell of getting in there. Completely irrational.
  21. Okay.... So does anyone want to claim the BU acceptances? Because this is it for me. I'm done.
  22. And there are the Brown rejections...
  23. Same here. Nothing but implicit rejections. I mean, can't they just tell me that I didn't get in so I can go on with my life!!
