  1. I don't think I'd redo either. You did a fantastic job on the rest of the test. Are you also submitting a writing sample? A writing sample and your statement of purpose will give the admissions people a better understanding of your writing ability.
  2. It also depends on the season. Winter will probably be quite different than summer, even in the mid-Altantic.
  3. Round 2 for me as well. I'm taking what I learned from applying the first time and will hopefully be a better candidate because of it this year. 1. I'm retaking the GRE to increase my quant score. I was told my scores were so far apart that it made people question my application. 2. I learned I don't want to be in a business school -- so although I'm not able to apply to more schools because of geographic restrictions, I will be able to apply to different schools which hopefully will be more aligned with my interests. 3. Reworking my SOP. And because I'm changing my program focus, I'm also going to have to rework a writing sample I originally wrote close to ten years ago.
  4. The quant section is painful for me too. The previous posters gave good advice. Practice, practice, and practice, and make sure you practice the GRE way too. Getting a workbook specific to the GRE is a great idea.
  5. Ditto ec86. You might want to purchase a GRE prep book and you can also use the prep material the GRE sends once you sign up for the exam.
  6. Hi everyone! I'm interested in visual studies and communication so I'm introducing myself in both forums. I'm most interested in studying advertising associated with social change issues at UCI's Visual Studies program (art history/film studies focused, which is why I'm in this forum). In regards to contacting programs, I've found both programs I'll be applying to very open to answering any questions I've had. For these particular programs, you don't need an advisor coming in, but I've asked profs about future research and their availability to take on new advisees in the coming years. I'm not entirely sure it's proper etiquette though!
  7. I have a background in ProfComm... sounds like you have some interesting research topics!
  8. 1. I think I ended up taking 5-6. That might have been a lot, but it really depends on the individual. I still didn't do very well. 2. I took a few I received once I signed up for the GRE and then others from a class I took. It just helped get a feel for what I was in for. 3. Make sure you have uninterupted time. 4. I used Kaplan.
  9. I agree it's not a negative. Just try to fill your time with activities that will make you a stronger candidate!
  10. Certainly not an expert, but I would think having your MA thesis related to your future research would be a good thing. You don't need to have it be exactly the same, but it may help you provide a foundation in the knowledge/research methodology you'll need for your PhD research. Because of various factors, my MA research project has very little to do with what I want to research in a PhD program and I think that definitely hurt me last year and will hurt me this year.
  11. Anyone applying for Comm for Fall 2010?
