Hey guys! I also got in off the waitlist at U of T today. I was middle-third on the UWO waitlist, so that will be another person on their list gone. -

Just to add to the debate, I'm a current undergrad student at Western (so I'm probably a bit biased). London is a great city. I took Intro to Speech & Language Disorders here (it's a course for undergrads), and the lecturers each week were a different faculty member of the school of communication sciences. They were all excellent, and had practiced in the field which provided lots of opportunity to learn from them. As far as Toronto living and London living, I originally come from Toronto and I love London. The housing here for students is cheaper and closer to the school. There's apartments (it's a company called London Properties) catered specifically to students literally next to Elborn College, and across the street. -

Wow, super helpful SLPhopeful2013! Thank you so, so much. This definitely makes me feel a lot better. If you find anything else out on Monday, it would be amazing if you could share it! Thanks again. -

Hey guys! I'm on the waitlist for U of T and UWO as well. I'm just wondering if anyone has been told by U of T where they are on the waitlist- they haven't replied to my email. UWO told me I'm middle-third, but I can't seem to get anything out of U of T! -

Good to know that the U of T list is much shorter. Does anyone know if they will tell us our approximate position, like Western? -

As other people on here reiterated, McGill does have a certain reputation for quality that I've heard before- though again, it's not as though there's a bad school for SLP in Canada. Small class sizes may be very appealing, and the three months off after the first year is a factor as well- if you need to work in the summers to make money, you can in the McGill program, whereas at U of T you cannot. However, McGill has some difficulty in placing students in the Montreal area specifically, due to most of their students being out of province and not bilingual (p. 17 of this document if you're interested http://www.caslpa.ca/PDF/university_survey_%202010_speech.pdf). In the end, you're choosing between two great programs, and you won't make a bad choice. Toronto and Montreal are both great cities! If I had gotten in to McGill, I will admit I probably would have chosen there- neuroscience is so interesting! And they offer the option to add on a thesis after the first year, if you decide once you're in the program you want to do research. -

I've been waitlisted at UWO as well! Did you call them and ask about your position on the waitlist, or email someone? I'd like to know where I stand. -

My McGill app still says "Ready for Review"...I'm thinking about calling them. I'd prefer to know if I'm rejected/waitlisted/in one way or the other. I just don't want to be annoying. -

GPA is certainly not the only thing their admissions decision are based on, but it plays a large part. If two applicants have all other things reasonably equal, GPA will be the determining factor. When I spoke to an admissions officer during a grad school fair in the fall (for SLP at UWO), she said that they have accepted people with just the minimum 15 hours of shadowing, and others with lots. I would assume that in the case of having the minimum 15 hours, your GPA would boost your application. As for funding, there isn't too much for professional masters unfortunately, compared to research-based. UWO has some in-house scholarships for those accepted. The awards from 2011-2012 are listed on page 19 of this pdf: http://www.uwo.ca/fhs/csd/files/downloads/pdf/current/Student%20Handbook%202011-12.pdf As well, there is OGS. Unfortunately, the application deadline for it was January 31st, but you are eligible to try for it in Year 2 of the program if you are accepted. -

Here's the search results from previous years: http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=dalhousie+speech+pathology Not too many people have put up their results, but it looks like you'll get a reply somewhere between March 30- April 6th! -

Hi all! Still waiting as well. I applied to U of T, Western, and McGill. Not expecting much on the McGill end, less than 10% of applicants get accepted. Hopeful for Western and U of T though. I have a 3.8 sGPA according to ORPAS, about 70 hours shadowing speech paths (two different populations) and various other extracurriculars (club leadership, Victorian Order of Nurses SMART certified). Also published once in a Student Council Research Journal at my home university- not super legit but still counts I suppose. Never realized how impatient I was till I clicked submit on my applications.
