  1. Just noticed that my application status on Carleton Central has changed from 'review in progress' to 'review in progress by the department graduate and post doctoral affairs'. If this means what I think it means, I am so incredibly relieved! Looks like the third time applying is the charm
  2. Anybody hear from Carleton regarding their application to the 2-year program yet? So much for knowing within two weeks!
  3. Ah, shucks! My fingers are crossed. It is my THIRD time applying and my first choice in school. Thanks for the info
  4. Seriously!!? I'm a candidate for the two-year program and have still yet to hear anything. This is VERY good news!! Thank you so much for sharing!
  5. It is my understanding that Carleton will notify unsuccessful applicants as early as late January and successful applicants sometime in February. I think you have some good experience under your belt, especially if you are applying to the social admin and policy stream. Good luck!
  6. Hi all, This is my second year posting on this forum. I have just submitted my 'round 2' application for the MSW program at Carleton. Over the past year I've been able to bring my GPA up to an A-, top up my work experience to 6,000 hours (between my job at a hospital and volunteering on a crisis line), and I've tailored my personal statement to be congruent with Carleton's 'Structural Approach' to social work education. I'm really hoping that this will be my year! Anyone here in the same boat with Carleton??? Cheers! Best of luck to everyone.
  7. I think applying next year is a really good idea, if all else fails. Good luck to you!
  8. Hello again Jenste, You are right about needing at least 3500 hours of experience for a competitive application to Carleton, and moreover, community placement hours from schools must not be included. However, "social work related experience" simply means working in the vulnerable sector in some way shape or form with populations that have problems. This includes hospitals, correctional institutions, social service agencies, crisis lines, and the list goes on and on...
  9. I'm a transportation worker, so my job is to work with nurses and orderlies to help transfer patients between areas of the hospital.... ICU, OR, Emergency etc. That sounds like a great job you have!
  10. Hi Jenste, Where did you hear that Carleton does not view hospital experience as relevant? I too, have five years experience in a hospital and I was told such experience was very relevant. Especially for those applicants wanting to work in health care.
  11. Carleton is now saying that offers and declines will be sent out on Feb 27th rather than at the end of this week. Such cruel torture
  12. Have any Carleton applicants heard back yet? The last update mentioned that declines AND acceptances will be sent out by mid-february. And well.... Its almost mid-february!
  13. AmyRebecca, thank you very much for your candid reply! You really did have a lot of quality experience so I'm glad you got in. If you didn't, I really wouldn't know what to think right now. Im hoping my five years in health care and personal statement will help curb my GPA. Fingers crossed! Do you happen to know if anyone from your cohort was accepted with a B + ?
  14. Hi everyone! I am just curious, I see a lot of posts concerning schools in the GTA, but has anyone on here applied to the MSW program at Carleton for the Fall 2013 intake? It is the only program I applied to this time around and I am anxiously awaiting the verdict on my application. I am hopeful that I put together a strong package; I have a GPA in the high B+ range, 5 years employment working part-time in a hospital, a little bit of volunteer experience working in a psychiatric hospital, and a little bit of volunteer experience answering crisis calls at the Distress Centre here in Ottawa (started in september). In addition, I touched on many themes of structural social work in my personal statement because I know that Carleton is really only looking for students who have a desire to practice structural social work. Can anyone who has any experience with Carleton offer some insight into my chances of being accepted? I think I'm starting to freak myself out a little... Cheers!
