  1. Exactly! I was also thinking three tiers.
  2. To those of you who have said you are 'on the alternate list for funding', did your letter of admission specifically state that? I have been accepted to GWU, but was told something along the lines of 'no funding at this time, if some becomes available you will receive full consideration'. Is this also what you were told? Also, is your funding guaranteed for the full five years, or is it up for renewal every year? Thanks.
  3. Congratulations, and thanks for the information. Does anyone else know of someone admitted to Georgetown this cycle in IR?
  4. And on that sentiment.....here to claim a GWU admit, but seems there isn't any funding right now. Happy to get the admit, sad for no funding.
  5. I'm curious for Georgetown, but also GWU (where, by my count, we only have 4 acceptances on the board, and some of these are alternates for funding).
  6. Congratulations! Has your status changed in the online application portal? I ask because constantly refreshing gradcafe isn't satisfying anymore....
  7. Their website states that they admit 6 to 8 with funding (see below). I also read/heard somewhere that more positions are offered, but without guaranteed funding. I've not yet given up hope - no reported acceptances for IR If anyone has been accepted by Georgetown: can you please advise whether your status has changed in the online application system?? Q: What are my chances of getting a full fellowship? A: The competition for fellowships is quite competitive. The Department of Government offers anywhere between 6 to 8 full fellowships (stipend and tuition scholarship for up to five years contingent upon satisfactory academic performance) to incoming students. Our stipends are approximately $18,580 per academic year. Source : http://government.georgetown.edu/57324.html
  8. To those who have been accepted to Georgetown - what does your application status say when you log in? Thanks.
  9. Congratulations. Do you mind sharing your field?
  10. Did anyone NOT receive this email? I'm a bit worried that it seems everyone got it except me!
  11. <Joker voice> This forum deserves a better class of troller. And I'm gonna give it to them! </voice>. Levity aside, to the person who wrote "safety school" against their Stanford rejection - keen to buy you a beer.
  12. Did you apply for the Ph.D. program? I did, and have not received this email - hence my concern.
  13. Did you email them asking for info, or did they send this email to you of their own accord? 555 applicants for 6 Ph.D. positions!!
  14. Of course, it's so obvious now! 0_o Thanks
  15. Whereabouts are you logging in to see this? When I try to log in to the apply website it says "Access Denied. You may submit only one application for admission to graduate study per academic year. For information go tohttp://studentaffairs.stanford.edu/gradadmissions "
  16. Exactly - I'd prefer they just let me know about the Ph.D. program....
  17. Interesting - unlike other programs, I can't see a 'do you want us to refer you to the MA program?' question on their application form. A decent number of applicants will already have an MA - one is enough!
  18. Has anyone actually gotten a rejection from Chicago or MIT yet???
  19. Would it be pessimistic (perhaps realistic) of me to suggest we create another thread titled: "How will you commiserate?"
  20. Yeah there is a real lack of info re MIT. Fields? No-one yet wait-listed?
  21. Not to confirm any cultural stereotypes, but it varies according to how drunk we are. Are there any other Aussies on here, lurking perhaps? Would be interested to hear from you, compare notes. From my perspective, it seems the American universities don't like to tell people 'no'. Of the six I applied to, 4 are dark and I've still not heard from Chicago or MIT. Just put me out of my misery.......
  22. Hahaha. That's cute. Regards, Australia.
  23. To those who have heard from MIT, what is your field? Any rumours on when the rejections will go out?
  24. Many thanks for that. The whole 'safety school' discussion had me worried that perhaps I'd unintentionally applied only for universities in the top 20. The learning curve can be a bit steep for us non-Americans. Thanks again.
  25. Please forgive a stupid question all, but what ranking system are we all using when we refer to 'top ten' or 'top twenty'?
