  1. Of everyone going to McGill next year, has anyone actually heard from the department yet? I created my student account and have that all set up but haven't heard a word since then. Just wondering if I'm the only one?
  2. I've been absent from the threads for a while but I've been keeping up with everyone. Congrats to everyone who's gotten good news! To everyone else, don't despair - I do believe everything happens for a reason. You'll end up exactly where you need to be, even if you don't know where that is yet! I officially accepted McGill's offer this morning. Looks like I will be returning to Canada after all It was very hard to turn down my alma mater but I just know this is the right decision. So excited for the upcoming adventure!!
  3. I officially accepted to McGill this morning!!!! So excited for this next step in my life. Would love to connect with anyone else heading that way!
  4. Oops I had been checking GradCafe on my phone and now I see (from my browser) that your location is listed on the side. Sorry about that! Sounds like a plan! I'm pretty much in the same position with McGill - had to prove I'm taking one more class over the summer, then I got the confirmation from the chair of admissions, but the "recommended by department" status is still up. So glad someone else is in the same position - sounds like you're not worried at all about being admitted at this point? I just want that email to confirm that it's a sure thing, but I just can't imagine we could get this far and have them take it back. (I'm notoriously a nervous wreck about stuff like this though, so maybe it's just me.) Either way, sounds like we'll be (almost certainly) be in the same cohort! So exciting!!!! (And I'll be coming from NC so I'm glad there will be another American perspective hahah)
  5. Yayy congrats!!!! Where in the US are you from? Also did you just hear from McGill today or already with the wave 2 weeks ago?
  6. Congrats Centcan, SLPHopeful88, and egad00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Thanks for copying & sharing! Well hopefully mine will look like this within the next couple of days! I feel like if I've been approved by the department, the grad school probably just has to do routine background check type things before officially accepting, right? That's what I'm hoping. I have my heart pretty much set on McGill and I will be somewhat devastated if for some reason it doesn't go through.........
  8. Hey, Centcan, quick question - what does your status say on Minerva? Did you ever see it transition from "recommended by department" to "accepted" or something similar? I had to email the chair of admissions showing that I'll take that one last prereq class (I did that over a week ago) and my status still says "recommended by department" and I've gotten no official letter of anything. Starting to get nervous since I know deadlines are coming up and I just want to make my decision!
  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so excited for you!!!!!!!
  10. Thank you! It really is an amazing opportunity. I just need to treat this all as a big adventure and have faith that things always happen for a reason It's tough, but I can do that.
  11. Haven't written too much lately but I've been keeping up with everyone - I've been thrilled with every acceptance I read about and I'm still praying for everyone who is still waiting to find out what their next year will hold.... As for me, I attended UNC's admitted students meeting and loved every minute - until they talked about financial aid. They don't have TAs and the only training grant they have right now is not available to non-Americans. Basically, it felt like all my hopes were dashed. Borrowing something like $70,000 to go to school just felt like a non-option. That was really tough, because that would be the easiest option (considering I live a mile from campus right now.) BUT.... I got an email from the chair of admissions at McGill (which is in Montreal, for anyone who hasn't heard of it) and I've been recommended for nomination to their program, so I am 90% sure right now that I will be moving back to Quebec this summer. Since I'm still technically a Quebec resident, tuition is almost 1/10 the cost. The thought of moving is terrifying, but I'm actually pretty excited because their program is amazing and their primary research interests are bilingualism and neurogenics. Regardless though, I've lived in the US since I was 10 years old and never imagined I would be moving back so this is still pretty scary.... for what it's worth, I'll essentially be immigrating to a new country and if I ever want to come back to live close to my parents and brothers, I'll have to find a job, sponsorship, apply for certification through ASHA, etc But that's okay! Trying to stay optimistic and just be grateful I even have a cheaper option. Making big changes is what grad school is all about right!? And money I will be saving will make it very worth it in the end, or so I am hoping.
  12. Thank you!!!! It's looking pretty certain that I'll be immigrating back to Canada at this point. Scary prospect!!!
  13. AHHH. Just checked my status on Minerva and it says "Recommended by Department"!!!
  14. Okay, well that's good to know! And yes - I'm seriously SO paranoid. Even though rationally, like everyone said here, I know I have a legit reason to call, I always picture professors thinking we're just wasting their time and then shredding my application then and there. It's so silly, but I get so nervous anyway!
  15. Thanks y'all (haha bringing in my Southern influence here ) I called and she said she hadn't had time to look through the emails yet. Luckily she confirmed that she had received it and that she'll reply in a day or so. So.... I'm still on the edge of my seat. But at least I know she has it, so that's good I don't remember from the introductions, but is anyone here a Quebec resident and applying for financial aid? I've started looking into it but I'd love to hear if anyone has any experience with this (or the QC government) already.
