  1. Hello,

I applied and was accepted to International Education Policy / Comparative Education programs at Harvard, Columbia (T.C.), Oxford, and GWU. I think your profile is great, but given the fact that most highly selective programs are not just looking for the summa cum laude, I recommend you research the curriculum of each school and ID the professors you admire (read a few of their publications) and connect where they are and where you want to be.

My experience was similar to years except I work in Peru and had at least four years of international work experience within the field of internationale education, counseling, and immigration.

Truth is, my BIGGEST recommendation is for you to ask yourself why you wish to apply right after graduation vs. taking a year or two to get MORE experience in the field.

I also definitely suggest focusing on FUNDING PLANS because as it was in my situation, getting admitted to all of the above was awesome BUT finding that they could not offer me the aid I needed to study was not.

So, plan ahead and never believe that there is a clock somewhere that is ticking against you. There isn´t you can only get better IF you look for the right direction and start building your application from now.

Recommendation letters are a major factor and given your academic strengths you should have professors willing to help you build this bridge to graduate school.

Statements of Purpose are also crucial. I cannot stress enought the qualitative factors over the quantitative ones.

That was my case. My GRE was just slightly above average. And none of my schools held that against me.

  2. My top choice is HGSE.

However, I am also awaiting to see the financial proposals of all schools.

If I earn some of the scholarships to which I have applied at HGSE then my decision is final.

    We shall see.

I am from Peru so I probably would not be able to go for the open house in April.

How about you? Where are you thinking of going?

  3. HGSE IEP : admitted

    GWGSE IED : admitted

OXFORD CIE : interviewd and awaiting notification

    COLUMBIA CIE : awaiting notification

    Congratulations to everyone!

If you are interested in applying to any of these schools in the future just shoot me an email for questions.

    Best!

  4. HGSE 2014, Ed.M in International Education Policy Applicant!

Hello everyone! Who here has already taken their GRE? I am scheduled to take mine tomorrow in Lima, Peru.

My question is whehter anyone recommends: to red bull or to not red bull before the GRE or during the 10 minute break?

Additionally, although we have seen the average scores posted from last years class how much weight do you think

these scores really carry in comparison to all the other application components?

I graduate from my U.S. college roughly over three years ago and let´s just say I have not had to use the

quadratic formula or the foil method in that entire time and I would be perfectly fine with not having to tomorrow either.

    Thanks!

  5. Hello everyone!

I stumbled upon this great website today and I'm very thankful to google for helping me do so.

My name Kelly and I'm currently working within the field of international education and academic

counseling in Peru. I plan on applying to a masters in international education policy within the

next 3-4 years. I have a few specific experiences I need to cross off my list before I do so to enhance

    my chances.

I graduated from college in 2010 and will have over 3 years of work experience as of May 2013.

The first year was within the diplomatic realm in Washington D.C. and my last two years have

been with EducationUSA in Lima, Peru.

I have been googling and googling and googling some more to find useful CV websites/models to help

update my college graduate resume and have come up with nothing.

For those of you who have recently applied to HGSE, TC, UPENN or any other great educational school I would

really be interested in getting CV advice or a CV model if you are willing to share.

My email is: krvillanueva@gmail.com and I'd be forever grateful if any of you could help me.

Sometimes before looking at the graduate program for answers, it can be even more helpful to look at the profiles of those

great minds who are applying there first.

    sincerely,

    -Kelly
