Hey guys, starting graduate school in the fall and I'm trying to work out a tentative budget for everything but I had a question about stipends. Say my monthly salary is said to be $2,100, how much of that can I expect to have in my pocket after taxes and whatnot? I was talking to my parents and they said to expect to have a little less than 1/3 of it taken out so I am just curious because if so my budget needs some serious reworking, ha. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I'll be with a $1,750/mo.
I expect to pay around $200/mo in taxes (take it carefully, TX has no state taxes). I think I don't have to pay Social Security and Medicare Taxes since I'm an international student.

Hi, upon looking at the rankings for grad school on USNews Report, I was disappointed to learn very few of the top/mid range schools are on the east coast- a place i'd ideally like to stay for the duration of my grad school years. I know rankings are not everything, but I'd really like to NOT have to be in the middle of the US or other coast. How can I reconcile my need to stay near home and go to a school with good programs in the area I want? Ps: Im looking in Biology (MS). What have you looked at?
Really?
Where did you look at?
9 out of the first 15 are on the East Coast:

Study hard, raise your Q to around 700 at least and your chances will definetely improve!

I have no words to define Gatech: sent them lots of emails to have an answer. Nothing. I don't care at all if it'd be Acceptance or Rejection now that I'm heading to TAMU, but I'd like to know where the money wasted for their app fee ended up.

Why 26 payments? Have you a 13th month payment? Is that regular for every 12 appointment? Thanks!

As a kid I wanted to be an astronaut but then I growing up I realized I was more interested in how things work. Well, Aerospace Engineering was the answer! During undergraduate years I decided I was more leaning towards aeronautics than space, and I was really attracted by structures and materials.

Phone them as soon as possible, you'll certainly get an answer.

Open thousands of identical posts changing the title won't definetely help your admission chances.
Give someone qualified time to come along and answer!

I think location is a factor. I would choose UCLA.
Costs?

If UW isn't funded I don't think there's pretty much to talk about: Notre Dame is well respected and you got a great package!

I have no debt from UGrad (state public school in my country, almost free) and I hope to get no debt from Grad since I'm on an Assistantship.

I received a letter from Kent State U, Liquid Crystal Institute ,telling me that they decide to admit me into their graduate program, but they will send me the official offer letter only after their university admission office approve my admission.
The problem is I have waited for the result of approval more than ten days, still no result or official offer letter now.
And today April 30 is the deadline when I have to response to university of missouri- columbia's physics program offer. I feel I like the Kent State's program more. But if I decline the offer of missouri, and then if I failed the approval of Kent State univerisity admissions, that will be horrible news to me.
So who can tell me is there any possibility that will I fail the approval?
My TOEFL is 81( speaking 15)
GRE verbal 380
Q 800
Physics Sub 890
GPA 3.47
Thanks!
Call them NOW and you'll clear everything.

I can talk for myself.
I accepted my offer and 4-5 days later I was contacted by International Office for I20 duties (proof of fin availability, questionnaire, etc.).
I forwarded everything they needed and in few days they issued to the dept (that is sending it to me postal) the I20 material to have it signed.

I know that it probably varies by school/program, but I was wondering if anybody know about the pay schedule for TA/RA stipends? As in, are they like monthly, twice monthly, at the beginning of the month, the end of the month, etc.
Thanks.
Mine is monthly and I think that's the most common pay schedule. Still don't know "when" during the month.

I think this is the wrong section, since it's "Engineering". I can't help you anyway
