  1. actually I've changed my mind about wanting a 15.4". I went to Bestbuy to actually look at these computers, and I think 14 or a 13.3 is better (preferably 14). I didn't think I'd actually care about weight and thickness, but after looking at them, and thinking about what I'm going to put in my backpack, I realized I wanted something a little smaller.
  2. sizzle one of those jimmy deans and make 3 or 4 patties. make a sandwich with fried onions, sweet pickles, layer of cheese and some condiments. roll your eyeballs to the back of their sockets.
  3. Steak marinated in any combinations of soy sauce, teryaki sauce, garlic, lemon. Seared on the outside, and cooked to a bright pink in the center. Vegetables like onions, green garlic, mushrooms, on the side, with a quick salad. I also like spaghetti. tastes good, cheap, good source of carbs, and really easy to make.
  4. I currently have my car insured by my dad under Westbend. They're really great with customer service, and did a really nice job when I messed up the suspension, for what was going to be a $1500 tab. They replaced everything with new parts at a $500 deductible, with full service, alignment etc. The rate isn't bad I don't think, but they're located in the midwest, a place I will never live again or 'so help me god' Now, I need to find something for not just my car, but also a motorcycle that I plan to get sometime this year as a backup vehicle. And from what I've seen dual coverages around here suck.
  5. apparently vizio laptops have funky keyboards, crappy trackpads, and they tend to drop wifi connections. They have such nice specs, but dropping the wifi is a deal killer. I had thought about getting a 13.3 zenbook core i5 SSD to replace my desktop, but that's really unnecessary at this point. I'll just use my hp netbook for now, and get one of those back to school deals to replace my desktop before I move.
  6. imo, 2 cats is lower maintenance than 1, just double the cost. and by cost, I mean neutering/spaying, food, litter, and vaccines, with most of the costs being a 1 time thing. Vets will find reasons for you to bring your cat back, for their benefit mostly, but all you have to do is give them something to play with, be it earplugs they stole from beneath your pillow, a soda straw they stole from your wendy's happy meal, tennis balls, your finger, catnip, scratching post, or another cat - I find they're very easily amused. Just remember to hang your clothes. I forgot laser pointers. cats will tear the floor up chasing after that shit.
  7. see the before grad school bucklist thread. set some goals for yourself that you want to accomplish while you're still in your 20s, and get after it. I'm going to leave myself a good chunk of time to travel before I move. Europe is the #1 place I've always wanted to visit. If I can find a good friend who's planning his vacation similarly, then that'd be even better. Money is money, there's plenty of that later in life. While it's important to save, and get started on that 401k, I consider this period of time to be one that's worth cherishing
  8. yea, he's a good boy. I wish I had frozen some of his seeds before neutering him. Terrible loss...
  9. Buddy Junior at 3-4 months old. I didn't notice he used to have green eyes. And that grease stain on his nose from getting friendly with my bike chain.
  10. I wonder what the distribution looks like over a large general poopulation. hehehe, I said poopulation. stupid keyboard
  11. I got an offer at a great school, in a great location, with an advisor who does really interesting research. However, I am still waiting on like 5 other schools. I do not have any information about funding yet, but considering it's engineering, I'm assuming there's enough funding for everyone they're expecting to enroll. So part of me wants to think that the competition is over, I have the freedom to choose, and that I should carefully consider my moves. The other part of me wants to take early action and contact the advisor, to sort of secure my position within his lab, and be an early bird. I want to at least email the professor, and discuss a little about his research, possibly funding, just to get my foot in the door, meanwhile waiting to see if other offers roll in. What are other people's take on this matter?
  12. any feedback on vizio laptops?
  13. that chromebook looks like a beasted up version of my dm1z. how's that processor treating you? it's only got a benchmark of not more than 1000, which is pretty low by today's standards wait, nerrmind. I can't do shit with a chromeOS
  14. INTP. I'm going to put that on my CV
  15. I heard about 6-8 loud pops somewhere outside my apartment last night, as I was writing that post. Then when I went to bed around 15 minutes later, I heard a bunch of sirens that went back and forth. I didn't see anything in the news stories on the web, maybe it was nothing. And yea, Acer and ASUS are both ranked pretty high in their brands, so is HP. I'll probably look for a deal in one of those.
  16. cats are da bomb
  17. oh ok that makes sense haha. yes, buddy junior used to look like that when he was 3 months, and was just a ball of energy. now he's just a chubby fur ball who likes to jump on top of me when I sleep.
  18. that little guy is 8 months?? he seems tiny. these fuggers are 11 months old. I thought you were supposed to feed them all they want for the first year, and cut back after that. Maybe it's because they're a different breed?
  19. I'm using my laptop mostly to do work when I'm on the go, like at a cafe or something. The one I have now is the hp dm1z. I just bought a new battery for it for pretty cheap, which should keep it from crapping out on me again. But I'm still considering on buying a new one that would make working away from home a little more convenient. holy shit I think I just heard a series of gun shots.....
  20. it's been 3-4 years since I bought a computer. My current 'laptop' is more of a notebook, with a 11.6 screen and amd dual core processor. I want to get a 14" or a 15.4, just because it'd be nice to have that bigger screen for work. as far as spec goes, I'll take what I can get, because most of them are more than enough anyway. What I wonder is how laptop quality varies with brand, and in what ways. Toshiba has a lot of really cheap refurbs, but their brand rank is pretty low compared to others like lenovo, asus, hp etc. Anyone care to shed some light?
  21. I think I set my bar too high for this year.... actually nah, I have 3 weeks of vacation this year, and maybe a sick day .
  22. 1. Visit Europe 2a. Reach cat 3 in amateur cycling 2b. Reach cat 2 after reaching cat 3 (unlikely) 2c. Win Houston Grand Crit cat 4 2d. Finish top 10 in Rouge Roubaix 4/5 (pushing my luck) 2e. Race in California 2eii. Ride along HWY 1 2f. MS150 2g. spindletop spin 100 2h. Tour of Austin (CoTA, and not have mechanical failure this time) 3. Visit San Francisco 4. Get a motorcycle + gear 4b. Learn to ride it and not crash
  23. more expensive than New York City, I've heard. I have zero debt, and I'm very happy about that.
  24. reminds me of this starting at 1:41 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYqwT1WA_o4
