  1. I meant in regards to being awarded Title IV-E and a CA State Grant. Tuition at SFSU is much cheaper than at a UC, so essentially, it's a full ride
  2. nice!! let us know once its official!
  3. anyone on the waitlist that is eagerly waiting for that call?? yesterday was the deadline for those accepted to submit their intent to register, hopefully some of us will hear some good news soon as spots open up!
  4. Go to SFSU! I'm slightly biased because I was accepted into their Title IV-E program as well but honestly, it makes NO DIFFERENCE where your MSW is from. I'm from the central valley (Fresno) and interned with CPS. The Department of Social Service's director had a Masters from a state school. I firmly believe its your skills, personality, and knowing what the hell you're talking about that lands you the job you seek after graduation. Someone that goes to a UC or Ivy League college is no better skilled than someone that attends a state school. No offense, but its the name that you're paying for, when you can receive the same education at a great state school. SFSU has a great program compared to other state schools, and their Title IV-E professors are ALL Berkeley graduates, so we'll receive a pretty bad ass education, for half the price. The other plus side, after tutiton is paid for, there's a good 10 grand left over from the stipend, to help with any costs you may have, such as rent and such. And lastly, San Francisco is just a beautiful city in general. I think the only time it matters where you went to school, is where you decide to attend for your PHD.
  5. Ya of course, if I get a call, because I believe they're only calling those they accepted and sending denial letters over the weekend. My stomach is on knots!
  6. I interviewed yesterday and Dr. Ralph said they'd be making calls today. I haven't even had to wait as long as anyone else and I'm going nuts! loll
  7. I was messaging with someone else and I told her this, thought I'd share here as well... So last year I applied to UCLA and it was the ONLY place I applied, unfortunately, I was rejected. I was really upset, I don't think I ever cried so hard lol but I set out to do what I needed to, to get in to grad school. For me, I felt my grades from undergrad weren't that great, I messed around in community college and by the time I got my act together at CSU Fresno, the damage was already done. My experience in the field was also pretty minimal, just my one year interning with CPS, mentoring an at-risk kid, and doing an internship overseas as a camp counselor for underprivileged kids. So after graduating with my BA in Social Work in May of 2013, I went back to school as a post-baccalaureate and took 12 units, raised my GPA drastically from a 2.9 to a 3.7, re-took the GRE and earned a better score, really put time (4 months) into my statements, and started working in a group home. Unfortunately, UCLA rejected me again this year, but I applied to 3 other schools this time around, 1 of which has already accepted me with Title IV-E (SFSU) and I have an interview with Berkeley next week for Title IV-E. So don't beat yourself up over UCLA or any other school, I've learned UCLA is one of those programs that really looks at more established individuals, with at least 3-5 years of experience, and doesn't feel the need to give a chance to many people fresh out from their BA who also have major potential. Don't let this hold you back, things happen for a reason, I was told that a lot last year after I got rejected, and I thought it was full of shit lol but seriously, they do happen for a reason. I got a full ride to SFSU and hopefully Berkeley will offer the same, and none of it could have been possible if I didn't go through what I did. When you re-write your statements, stay away from the sob stories, those panels have heard it all. I would definitely recommend writing about why you want to be a social worker, tying it to your experience, and what you've learned from it. Also what I feel helped me is that I wrote about what I'd like to do my Masters thesis on. That shows you are ready for graduate school and have actually put in some thought as to what you'd like to focus on, which sets you above the other potential applicants. Moreover, make sure you write your statements in a way that you aren't just going to that particular school to learn about social work; you should already know what your place in this field is, the program will merely be an asset to enhance and fine tune your skills, that's all. What I was told was not to sound like a social work text book. They already know what social work is about, they want to see how you interpret it, what you hope to gain from it, and how you plan to implement it.
  8. I had mine on March 3rd, heard back the next day on the 4th that I was accepted, via e-mail
  9. I applied December 3rd. It was really annoying waiting so long, especially because I applied to SFSU December 16, and found out I was accepted on March 4th, with Title 4E interview and acceptance as well. If the State schools can get to it, ucla shouldn't be lagging so long! I have another interview set up with Berkeley for title 4e, so if I get it, definitely going there. No problem being a Cal student!
  10. Just got my kiss of death email lol good luck to everyone else!
  11. They basically asked me why I'm interested in child welfare and then gave me scenarios. For me, it was really simple to answer the questions because I interned with CPS for a year as an undergrad, so I'm familiar with a lot of the situations they asked about.
  12. I was e-mailed. I had my interview just yesterday, found out around 11 this morning
  13. Just got accepted, with Title IV-E!!
  14. Thank you!! sending positive vibes to you as well! Hopefully we'll be 4E recipients together!
  15. I just replied to you on the other sfsu thread lol but ya, totally nervous, did they say if you're a finalist or not?
  16. I received the same call for Title IV-E! But they wouldn't tell me if I've been admitted to the MSW program or not I figure though they wouldn't waste time and give interviews to people that weren't admitted to the MSW program...ugh I hate the anxiety
  17. For which school?? I got the same call two days ago for SFSU!
  18. When did you apply?? I sent in my application Dec 3rd, still haven't heard back :/
  19. thank you! hopefully I'll know by the middle of the month
  20. congrats! when did you apply? I'm still anxiously waiting, turned mine in Jan 6th
  21. that's awesome! congrats! did you apply by the priority deadline of dec 15 or regular jan 15? nvm, answered my own question by reading the bottom of your post lol
  22. For anyone that has applied to UCLA: Does anyone know if after logging in to the online application for graduate admission, does the status change from application submitted, to application under review? Once the board starts reviewing it? Just wondering. I keep checking everyday for something, the waiting game is killing me!
  23. yup! Some did find out March 15-25, so I'm trying to stay as patient as possible lol
  24. Waiting on UCLA! I know they said they'd inform March 1st, but I read previous year's forums and people started finding out as early as February 25th. Anyone else applied to UCLA? So nervous!
