  1. In the state of Minnesota you can work as and SLP with a Bachelor's and a temporary license if they can't find someone with a Masters. Having an older sister that is an SLP has been really helpful..she knew that I could do this..where as they never even mentioned it as an option in college. There is a catch though..you can only work with the temporary license for a certain amount of years..I believe it is 3 years. Therefore, I have been working as an SLP this school year. My caseload is 42 students ranging from birth to 21. It has been a great experience for me, but it will be frustrating if I don't get in to grad school, especially since I know I can do the job already.
  2. I really do hate groupon these days. I work as an SLP for 2 small schools and when I don't have students in with me its hard not to watch admissions non-stop and whenever I get an email my heart skips.
  3. This is my second time applying and I am starting to get super nervous. This past year I have worked as an SLP in a small school district with a temporary license, and the experience has been soooo great, but I am hoping my schools I apply to look at my application more than just my GPA and GRE. It frustrates me when that is all the look at. I am ready to get my schooling done so I can start settling down somewhere, but its hard when you don't know where you will be in the next few years.
  4. Oh shoot! I hope mine are not due by March 1st. I couldn't even submit my taxes until yesterday due to a new law with working in education that the state was working on. I currently am an SLP with a temporary licence and they didn't get everything figured out until the 28th for submitting them, therefore I am submitting mine this weekend.
  5. Someone had told me that the loans for grad school were different and that the school offers them through a different program. Thank goodness I thought more about it because I defiantly need loans to pay for my school. My dad does my taxes so I am glad he has not submitted them yet. Anyone know how you find out about funding? Do they let you know just a little after they accept you? or do you have to ask them? My sister has prepared me really well for grad school except apparently in the financial area.
  6. Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew more about having to apply for FAFSA... I didn't know if it is something you normally do for graduate school like you did in undergrad or not. I am just trying to figure out if it is something I should be doing or not. My sister can't remember if she applied for FAFSA or not when she went to graduate school for Speech. If anyone has any information about how funding works in graduate school..any information is helpful.
  7. If you are not applying for this fall I would recommend getting an SLP job for the school year if you can. I don't know the rules for Texas...but I am from Minnesota and in Minnesota you are able to hold a full-time Speech pathology position with a temporary license....not just an SLPA. When I did not get into grad school...I started applying around Minnesota and got interviews right away for the positions and got hired within a week. Every job I interviewed for..I got. If they need someone..they will hire you even though you have a Bachelors. By law they have to hire a Masters degree first but if they can't find someone they are able to hire with a bachelors and a temporary license. So if leaving the state isn't an issue for you...maybe you could go somewhere that is in high demand for speech teacher. Many cooperatives and small towns where people wouldn't think to live is where they need people. I work for two schools in cities that have populations about 300 people each. My cooperative has a very hard time finding speech teachers due to the fact that you are living kind of in the middle of nowhere so all the small towns around here have speech teachers with only bachelors and normally the teachers leave after a year..when they go to grad school. Because of this reason..they are very comfortable hiring people with bachelors degrees because they know what we can and can't do because they have been forced to have employees with bachelor's degrees instead of masters for many years. These jobs also tend to pay better due to the fact that they can't find anyone.
