1. also, be sure to down vote this spammer...
2. Thanks! And I didn't know there was a limit! But there, I returned the favor!
3. Congrats, SLP2013 -- I just checked my voicemail and I too was accepted. Yay!
4. Oh wow, where is that admission confetti from? That's awesome!
5. Ha, might be a bit tricky... but let me know!
6. Good to hear, Jmarti. That's the spirit!
7. I'm sure a lot of you have seen this, but if not, it's good!
8. No offense taken! And yes, it is easier once you hear good news. I merely saw a number of negative posts in a row and wanted to try to keep the collective spirits up.
9. Ooh, next week. Exciting!
10. I'm sorry, I'm really not trying to seem like I'm busting out the guitar and strumming the opening chords to Kumbaya, but it isn't impossible at all. And I know you know this is true. It's these automatic negative thoughts that are absolute ruin. By simply recognizing and being cool with the fact that those thoughts do fire off automatically in response to a potentially negative event is in and of itself a step in the right direction. Recognize them and challenge with an equally likely, positive thought. Give it a shot at least -- it can't hurt!
11. More and more schools are sending out admissions decisions, interviews, etc., making this time potentially more nerve-wracking and anxiety provoking than ever. So, to prevent these forums from becoming too negative, let's start amassing a collection of things that make us laugh, feel better, happy, (e.g., videos, images, sweet jams). Hopefully these will serve to improve overall morale, and can be a source of positivity for those who are stressed from waiting, or bummed for other reasons. I'll start. Picked this up on StumbleUpon (a truly wonderful way to procrastinate if you're looking for something to keep your finger from hitting the refresh button in your inbox, by the way) the other day: "My daughter has chosen the dark side"
12. There is nothing to worry about, and neither of you are lost causes. There are a ton of ways to interpret the lack of results as something besides, "I'm a failure and I won't get into grad school." Such thinking will serve no purpose other than stressing you out and ruining your day, so why do it?
13. Travel, let me know what they say. If they can do a reproduction for a reasonable price, I might be willing to pay them as well!
14. Grats RN, let's hope for more good news for the other UVA applicants.
15. I'm assuming you're talking about the undergraduate prerequisites (i.e., courses you would take as an undergraduate majoring in SLHS/CSD)? Many programs feature a "leveling year" for out-of-field applicants, and I would imagine with partial credits you would finish simply finish this sooner than those with little/no SLHS coursework completion. Or as Kcald said, you could knock out your last few prereqs the summer prior to matriculation, or concurrent with graduate study.
A lot of the programs I applied to, which are listed in my signature, feature a leveling year for out-of-field applicants -- feel free to start there.
*EDIT: After reading your post again, it looks like you're talking about graduate level courses required for an M.A./S.-SLP, and not undergraduate-level prereqs. In that case, none of the above may apply. I'd recommend getting in touch with someone at each program to see if they take students who have completed partial coursework. Sounds to me like you'd have to transfer your coursework, which I'm not sure other programs would be okay with?
16. Good to see another Chapel Hill alum on the forums. Go Heels!
17. Congrats, TalkItOut! With an acceptance under your belt, hopefully you can start relaxing and enjoying the wait!
18. That's the spirit. Choose sanity!
19. Completely agree with Vee, Asheville is great, especially the downtown area. A foodies' dream come true, and a ton of great breweries.
20. Tay, if any of the programs you applied to have a leveling year, I don't see why it would matter whether you had taken any of the prereqs. Of course, taking these prereqs and doing well can suggest that you would also do well in their program, it seems that with your GPA you have demonstrated your ability to perform in an academic setting. I understand you're worried, but you should relax and enjoy your last year of undergrad!
21. If you're feeling stressed, just look back on the more stressful parts of this process. Remember the many months you spent studying for (and eventually taking) the GRE? Or what about the infinitesimal drafts of your personal statement that you wrote and edited before settling on your final versions? By comparison, the waiting game is the easiest thing we'll do. Or, if it's more helpful, think of how stressful it will be to decide which program to attend after your bounty of acceptances!
22. Phew! I just finished my interview a little under an hour ago. Like everyone else mentioned, it was super laid back and the interviewers were a joy to speak with. Good luck everyone!
23. Definitely nice, and yes, definitely expensive. If you don't mind me asking, whereabouts NC are you, Kcald? I'm in Chapel Hill.
24. Sorry to double post, but for messenger bags, this guy is my dream (and a bit pricey): http://www.saddlebackleather.com/Classic-Briefcase?sc=8&category=30140
25. Personally, I recommend against purchasing a keyboard case. While true, it is difficult to type on the iPad, the tiny keyboards that come with these cases are equally as frustrating to use. I would suggest you get a nice stylus (ThinkGeek has a nice one I can link if you're interested) and purchasing a quality note taking app like Notability. This app is extremely easy to use, and uploads copies of your apps to the cloud service of your choice (e.g., Dropbox).
