  1. I decided on Carleton's PhD program
  2. I heard back from the Political Science Department at UofT (for the PhD program) on March 10th in an e-mail from Carolynn Branton. So I would suggest e-mailing her for more information.
  3. Carleton Poli Sci admissions just went out!
  4. I talked to the grad program admin at UofT about a month ago and she said the ad com meets this week and decisions are released very soon afterwards, so either by the end of this week, or early next.
  5. Panic Room
  6. The PhDs in my program (Military & Strategic Studies - which is Interdisciplinary) have had a difficult time landing even adjunct/sessional teaching positions because they're not considered qualified in the specific field even though they take the same IR/Strategic Studies Comprehensive exams as Political Science students. So yes its a thing that can be held against you in an academic job search - but that's not to say its bound to happen all the time.
  7. Most of the PhD's I've met at UCalgary have been telling me the exact same thing, so I'm also hesitant to sign up for another 4+ years haha... I did my undergrad at Western - I approve of that choice lol. As for my PhD apps, I think Carleton is my top choice, followed by UofT and Ottawa...of course this is contingent on: 1. getting an offer & 2. the funding that comes with it!
  8. I've heard good things about the program at Queen's particularly the support that some supervisors can give in terms of funding / research grants etc. which is good. I've only heard positive things about both their MA and PhD programs. Did you apply to any other programs?
  9. Just got a positive response from the PhD program in Political Science at the University of Ottawa! So relieved to have at least one answer haha
  10. Just got accepted to the PhD Program at Ottawa! Which is surprising because I wasn't expecting to hear back from them for another month or so!
  11. Yikes! I'm waiting on the PhD program at Carleton, knowing that the MA acceptances have gone out has increased my anxiety by about 100%...
  12. I'm not too sure about that, I e-mailed the department directly to figure that out. I'm sure you could do the same?
  13. I spoke to the Grad Advisor at UofT, she said the Ad-Com meets in the first week of March and announcements are made that week or the next, I imagine that depends on when in the week they meet. (I posted this in the main Canadian Uni thread so sorry for any repeats ) I specifically referenced the PhD program in my e-mail but I assume they do it all in one, considering that getting the committee together is probably not the easiest thing in the world to schedule.
  14. Just an Update - I spoke with the Graduate Advisor at UofT in the Poli Sci department, she said that the Ad-Com meets in the first week of March and then the decisions are announced relatively quickly, either that week or the next. I imagine this is for both the MA and PhD applicants. This seems to be pretty much in line with past years' results.
