  1. This is SUCH a great response, haha. Congrats, man, and congrats to all of you! Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be able to report I'm joining ya'll. I think I'd be a lot more nervous had I not already gotten into a couple solid places, but ever since my interview I've been really into SAIS (Nelson Graves sold it really well!), and would love to go there if I get in and I get some money thrown my way. I got the impression foreign students in the Bologna cohort have a pretty good shot at getting some funding; Mr. Graves said around 50% of Bologna applicants who request funding get something, and that the average grant was around 50% of tuition. That seems much higher than I'd seen cited previously, but hey, straight from the admission director's mouth!
  2. Seems some people got their results from Bologna though...I dunno, so far as I can tell the whole thing is totally arbitrary...ah well, good to know we'll know soon enough!
  3. I'm also a foreign student applying to Bologna, and nothing here so far! So begins a night of refreshing my browser My last name begins with a B, for what its worth.
  4. I'm waiting for my other decisions as well, some from schools that are higher ranked. The thing is, barring one of them offering me a full ride (unlikely, to say the least), Chicago will be by far the cheapest option due to its funding offer and one year length. And for someone who's considering academia and the years of mean living that go with it, that's no small consideration. 2nd year at Harris...that's actually not a bad idea! I wonder if that's commonly done...
  5. I got the exact same letter, except with "China" in place of "Homeland Security," haha. But like you said, it was cool of them to reach out at all; I wouldn't expect them to write a completely individualized letter to every applicant! I've had a few brief email correspondences with the admissions office, and they seem like friendly, down to earth people. If I get in this is going to be a really tough decision!
  6. I've got the same concerns as the above two posters. I could basically go either way as far as academic career vs. policy career goes, and I think its pretty well established that CIR is great for the former, but the latter...I'm honestly just not sure yet. Will I have the same standing in potential employers' eyes as a graduate of SAIS/SFS/Fletcher when looking for jobs in DC? I do get the impression that the majority of the class actually does end up in some kind of policy career as opposed to academia, and TRIP ranked Chicago fairly highly on its "Pipeline to the Beltway" list, but I guess I just haven't seen enough concrete evidence about what most CIR grads are doing after graduating to be totally reassured yet. Basically, I just want to know that if I don't go into academia the degree will still be a valuable asset in finding a job. That one concern aside, I do think the program looks really cool for a variety of reasons, and if I can just get the reassurance that CIR grads who don't go into academia end up with the same opportunities as the other top programs I think I'll be good to go!
  7. Hey Waqfi, I just got my acceptance last night: in with 1/2 scholarship! Really excited, since from what I've read CIR looks to be pretty up my alley, but still waiting on a few other programs. I was also happy to see they offer a small stipend to attend the open house on April 8th. Anyone else thinking about going?
  8. For what its worth, I got the same thing in the mail a couple days ago. Naturally, I got all excited thinking it was a decision letter, silly me. I wouldn't read too much into it, but hope springs eternal! PS If you don't mind my asking, what are you up to in Beijing? I'd been living there for going on three years before coming home this Fall.
