  1. Made it to 2nd year. My program is one year full time but since I am part-time all my classmates have graduated so at times feeling a little down. At least most of the part time students are still there. on the bright side I lended a temp full time position related to my studies. Now have to keep networking.
  2. I have two summer courses starting next week before I can enjoy 2 months off from grad school. Still waiting for grades in one class; we'll see what I got in that one. But since I have been registered for my summer classes I assume I did ok. Is it just me or does anyone else feel like their brain is permanently turned into grad mode? I use to love reading but I can't stand the sight of books or articles right now . My classmates are all graduating this summer and doing coops so it'll be strange in September when I'll start with a whole new cohort. I'm also applying to jobs in my field so I feel exhausted some days.
  3. Checking in. Trying to do a majority of my assignment very early. One of my new year's resolution was to do as much as I could very early. Also applied to an internship. I wish the results were out already.
  4. Handed in my last assignment for the semester on Tuesday. Waiting for grades. Nerve wracking. My brain feels drained and I'm looking forward to reading non academic stuff this winter break. On the bright side: I survived the first semester. Working full time and grad school at night tested the limits of my sanity and health.
  5. Work is toxic. Today was the last straw. Rumours are rife while bosses don't know or choose to be oblivious. Was made to wait until last minute for approval that needed to be done by early afternoon. Supervisor is dumping her work on me. Screw you! I'm giving myself 6 months to find something else. I have grad school assignments up to my eyeballs.
  6. Thanks threeboysmom. I feel better the day after and am focusing on next assignment starting really early talking to prof to make sure I am doing what he is looking for. Hope you feel better soon!
  7. Just failed an assignment I got back. And did really well in another I got back. Having a stiff drink for the failed assignment.
  8. One more person quit work today effective Friday. Need to move on asap. Can't take it anymore. Applying for positions and waiting for answers almost as bad as waiting for grad school's answer.
  9. I should have that posted in front of my desk with the sheer volume I did this weekend for one class. Now still have second class readings to do. Sometimes I have that nagging feeling I am not as competent as my classmates but I've decided to keep at it and do my best. Also waiting for my agenda to arrive. Yes I know I know :-). Right now I am using an agenda but it doesn't have monthly schedule along with weekly schedule which I like to have. Feels like assignment are due just around the corner. I've also decided to try a new physical activity. I made lots of progress this summer and I don't want to lose that momentum. Besides I need an outlet (apart from you wonderful gradcafe peeps ;-) ) when my classes will drive me mad.
  10. Had my first class today. Went well. Met some people in my program who are also in my second class which starts on Thursday. I have to give prof in my first class a two liner due next class on my paper for the semester and I have no clue what I'll be writing about. I'll just do my best. Good thing is no books to buy for this class.
  11. Just wanted to add to this thread to say that I had a gpa hovering around 3.0 thanks to a disastrous first year in biochemistry. I would later switch but not before some university advisors convinced the grades I had reflected normal transition for biochem. Anyways... I knew my chances of entering a masters program right away were not too good so I got a job in a field related to my future interest and took postgraduate classes for a certificate related to the masters I wanted to apply for. I applied last cycle and was rejected. I contacted both the program director and the program administrator to find out what I could to better my application. The program administrator got back to me and explained that I had applied later than their primary deadline. Second time I made sure to apply early - kind of a challenge when you're working full time and chasing LORs and reading up on grad applications. I was accepted and will be starting this Fall 2014 my masters (part-time) while working full time. I hope this helps anyone with a sub 3.0 gpa. I know all the posts I read gave me hope. Short version: don't give up!
  12. Thanks for starting this thread! It gives something positive to look forward to. I just got rejected from the school I wanted to attend so I'm reapplying for next fall. I'm also working full time so I definitely understand how draining it can be. For fall 2014, I'm hoping I can get some feedback from the school. If not I'll contact some professors from the program. Oh, and saving money for the application process and school. Perhaps, things did work out for the best (trying to be positive).
  13. Got the news…did not make it in this year. Congrats to those who made it. Now looking forward to applying for next fall and trying to figure out what the weaknesses were in application.
  14. Hello, Got an email last week from Ryerson to tell me they had considered my app and will make a decision soon. Has anyone who has applied to Ryerson got similar email? Is it being wait listed ? Wish I could have a decision soon just so I can move on and put on action plan B of need be.
