  1. I claim the Stony Brook acceptance with full funding. SO stoked.
  2. Anyone hear from Stony Brook? They met last wednesday, I know for a fact. Wonder what's going on. :/
  3. Congrats gingin, 2 acceptances in 1 day, you must be over the moon! Guys why are things moving so slow? I wanna hear back from more schools already ugh.
  4. FertMigMort, your reputation preceeds you. I am sure your AmA is half the reason half of us might be going to grad school next year. Thank you for that and for this because seriously, I have a Visit Day on March 5 and I am sitting here thinking everyone will ask really smart questions and I'll stare dumbly at everyone and say "I like food" (my research has a lot to do with food). So everyone who has been through this before, or is on the other side, more advice will be super helpful.
  5. AND they already met last week. So this week has to be it.
  6. I am curious too about the selectivity. How many people are in the average cohort? Not that it matters in terms of my decision-making, I am as sure that I want to go here as I can be, as long as they give me good funding. But I do wonder how many admits there are since it's a huge program!
  7. Were you one of the people who got admitted in the first round a few weeks ago? Then you may have been contacted separately. The email I got (and I assume the same for squelchevesir) about being admitted already had the Visit Day date mentioned. They said more information will follow though.
  8. Thank you RandomDood. *Proceeds to diligently reiterate interest in the program*
  9. Yeah I read through that thread and that's the impression I got too: that they've already played their Aces. But hopefully they'll do something. I am going to visit day, but only because I live in NY. Don't most schools have some kind of travel stipends for recruitment?
  10. I just got in and I may not make a whole lot of sense because I am in complete shock and joy over the getting in part, cause, like top choice. I can't believe this at all. But I have NO clue what's going on with funding. Do you have any idea what this might mean: "We are unable to offer you funding at this time as our funding decisions are still being finalized. Offers of financial aid are made on a rolling basis and we will know about available support in the near future. We will let you know more about funding that as soon as we are in a position to do so."
  11. Same exact thing. Accepted, easily a top choice, hoping against all odds to nab that funding. I can't even believe this.
  12. Yeah I was totally referring to Howard Becker lol
  13. Loving all the Becker loving. I like Durkheim. I'm a rabid Marxist, too. Bourdeiu, Foucault, Wallerstein. Very much Wallerstein (Binghamton if you're reading this, TAKE ME NOW THANKS).
  14. Little different in my case. So I have an entire life set up in the U.S. from going to undergrad here. On my OPT currently and if isn't grad school, it's most likely pack up and go back even though my life, my friends, my boyfriend, mostly my hopes and dreams of becoming an expert sociologist are all here. Planning is going to be hard but needs to start ASAP so I really need answers. You are spot-on with the life changing decisions depending on an email in your inbox lol!
  15. Hahaha, no I am just exhausted of waiting so picked up the phone and called everywhere after I decided I don't care what the results are as much I care about knowing so that I can start planning the rest of my life lol.
  16. Repost from other thread but hopefully useful information: - Stony Brook is meeting tomorrow. Expect to hear back later this week or early next. - UCI hasn't made decisions for non-citizen students yet. This doesn't mean chances for us are good necessarily, though, as they are waiting "for additional funding to become available" first. I think it's not bad news either. - Binghamton is meeting on the 21st (I think someone else already mentioned this) - Columbia is still making decisions so some of you might have legit shots (I don't, cause GRE scores lol but thought the rest of you should feel a little at ease). - Rutgers has made their decisions so if you're feeling bold, give them a call. Anyone else suspect the single Columbia acceptance posted might be a fake? There is only one from last week and noone even claimed it, that I know of. Also, if anyone has any real info on CUNY and whether they are still accepting (I highly doubt it but gosh I can't stop hoping, I have a total girl crush on this program) please please share.
  17. Some news that hopefully applies to some of you: - Stony Brook is meeting tomorrow. Expect to hear back later this week or early next. - UCI hasn't made decisions for non-citizen students yet. 18. Who got into CUNY? Congrats to you guys! Any info you'd like to share? I was TRYING to calm down about not hearing anything from anywhere, but based on last year's results, all acceptances went out on the same day? Can't help but feel so heartbroken. I didn't even realize/ accept it fully until now but CUNY certainly was my top choice. Goodbye Dr. Gould.
  19. Fyi, guys, UCI is reviewing applications and meeting next week, so except answers late next week/early the week after.
  20. Congrats to all the Princeton accepts! Enjoy being in the #1 program. Wish some of you winners at life had posted your stats too, though . I didn't even apply to Princeton, but I am curious about their standards lol.
