HUGE mistake while applying - I am screwed?

Thanks! I finally ended up being in touch with the Department Chair and he was super nice and said the adcomm is meeting in the middle of next week and I should be fine. Phew! -

HUGE mistake while applying - I am screwed?
SocGirl2013 replied to SocGirl2013's topic in Sociology Forum
The incorrect department did, unfortunately. Deadline was mid-Jan. I guess I can say goodbye to this program now. -
I just found out that I sent my application to the wrong department at one of my schools. Some MA in Social Science Program. I met the deadline but only got notified about the error and my information is being transferred. But I am way past the deadline now, and suspect ad-comm has already met and made some decisions. What do you guys think?

Fall 2014 Sociology Interviews and/or Acceptances

Are you saying what I think you're saying lmao -
Hahaha okay okay it's not over until it's over.

This topic is so applicable, o god. My boyfriend and I have only been dating 8 months, and assuming that I go away for school in August, we'd have only been together a year. So logically, we should just part ways and move on with our lives. But we both want to make it work so bad. He's getting is MS in Computer Science while working a full-time job and until he completes his Masters he cannot even think of moving, that's 2 years for sure we'll be apart (unless I am lucky enough to get funding at a good program here) and he says if we can make it through that time via LDR, we will be okay and he will move to me and get a job where I am. Jobs in his field are generally not lacking, but who is to say whatever lame village I end up in for grad school will have booming career opportunities for him? I basically really doubt it's going to work out in the long run and it hurts a lot but we have all made a commitment to this dream and this career so sacrifices are a part of that. I am going to try my best to fit my relationship into this dynamic but there is no way to be sure it will work out. All of this is, of course, assuming I get in, which based on results thus far I am starting to doubt lmao.

Fall 2014 Sociology Interviews and/or Acceptances

Bunch of new admits. Any takers? -
^ Fingers crossed.

This. THIS SO MUCH. I had that moment yesterday and it sucks. I realized what I thought as the weakest part of my application (my GRE scores) wasn't at all the weakest, and in the worst way possible. I think my writing sample should have been so much more heavily edited. My research experience wasn't extensive enough and my transcript, even with a 3.93 G.P.A. is very weak with minimal quantitative classes and no statistics. Yeah, this morning I woke up and accepted that perhaps Grad School is not happening for me this year. I am trying to cope.

How long after committee meets do they notify applicants?

Where did you check your status? Mine doesn't allow me too. :/ I wonder if they're meeting today for ALL programs ugh. -
Fall 2014 Sociology Interviews and/or Acceptances

Hey, first of all CONGRATS! And Thanks so much for clarifying your process! You didn't make us worried at all, we were always anxious, this gave me something particular (aka Rutgers) to direct my anxiety towards lol. May I ask about your stats/background? -
A good program in my opinion is one you fit well with but will also at the end of the day, get you a job. Because there is a life you need to live after the 5-6 years of Grad School, lol.

Lol I'll take that to mean game over for me and Rutgers. Now I shall pretend I never applied there and move on to the next one. Le sigh. Congrats to everyone who got an interview! New Brunswick is nice! -

It wasn't me but I applied to Rutgers and now I am hyperventilating. I wonder if they conduct interviews for ALL candidates. ugh. -
That's awesome! Three pubs? wow! Some of our research interests match (development, comp/hist) and schools too!
-
Congrats avatarmomo!! May I ask your stats/background?

Anyone wanna claim the first Minnesota acceptance?
-
amlobo thank you, thank you so much we all needed that. And the guys who applied to UCD and UCLA, kudos for dealing and hold tight, I bet good news (not necessarily at these programs but maybe even that) is around the corner. On another note, kinda glad none of my schools have had any action yet. It gives me time to pretend I didn't apply before I completely lose my sh*t.

Wow, you're really on a roll! Congrats!!
-
Sure, "relax" if by that you mean wait frantically for it to be Monday again while we panic and have nightmares for the next 48 hours lol.

I think Barx is the way to go, even if it may be too obvious. It's brilliant! Also, Durk. How about Durk? (for Durkheim) -

I am sure I will be one of the people diligently using this thread to report rejections. In other news I am so tipsy. Hi guys. -
Congrats SheWrote, that's superbly fantastic for this early! Surely you have some awesome news coming up!

Notre Dame interviews are out. Anyone else feel like for January 16, things are moving superbly ridiculously slow?!
