  1. There is a general ETA one for everybody, and the one you posted is a Brazil only group. I think the moderator for the Brazil one actually works for Fulbright... still waiting for approval into that one. This is the general one for all ETA's regardless of region: https://www.facebook.com/groups/123328967859396/142990595893233/?comment_id=150872588438367&notif_t=group_comment_reply
  2. Congrats!!! Told you that there was a good chance you'd get bumped!
  3. Have your fpa forward that to you asap! Hopefully she's right and you're golden!
  4. General ETA group for 2013-2014: https://www.facebook.com/groups/123328967859396/
  5. How about you make the Facebook group and we go from there?! I'm no help on the questions, but I can be a quick add (there is a general ETA group, so it could be advertised in there to get lots of new members)
  6. So sorry, but don't give up hope just yet! I'm sure there are many that already committed to jobs or decided they aren't willing to go due to language, riots (anybody watching the confederations cup riots?!), etc. With 90 slots, odds are certainly in favor of some alternates getting moved up!
  7. I don't know if it's rolling or not; that was just a guess. maybe they sent out stuff to a large group and are waiting to hear of any rejections before proceeding forward? No idea...
  8. ej, did you get the confirmation email that your statement of interest was received? I got that in late May or so I think...
  9. You got nothing yet?! Check your spam, junk boxes, alternate emails, and the works?! That's crazy! Maybe they are doing it on a rolling process.... Hopefully you will hear something asap!
  10. Congrats! And now we wait to see where we get placed...
  11. I'm going to Brazil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. By the way, if anybody gets bored and wants to read about my experiences in Chile, I'll be blogging at zacharyhaskin.blogspot.com. I have a pre-trip note up already and will blog every week or two with pictures, stories, etc!
  13. Welcome to the waiting game! Where did you apply for in the first round, Brazil or another country?
  14. Alright, it's officially Monday again... we're more than halfway through the month... is today the day?!
  15. No kidding! At least we know it will be two weeks or less. I'm wondering if there will be any visa issues if I'm in Chile and accepted?! It sounds like there is an extensive list of things we must do like medical screenings and such before departing... I hope they send stuff sooner rather than later so I can take care of all of that before leaving for Chile (if I'm fortunate enough to get an offer)!
  16. Well, looks like we will be waiting until next week at least for Brazil...
  17. They have it all over the world. Basically you pay LanguageCorps for an intensive four-week TESOL certification, and they help network you for employment in the area. In some Asian countries (flagship countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia), you can have guaranteed employment through them, along with insurance, housing, etc. With Chile, I'm doing the certification process with them and then seeking employment. Make sure to pick a country in the right hiring time! Originally I wanted to do Costa Rica, but it was bad hiring time, so they pointed me to better countries based on the time of year and such. www.languagecorps.com
  18. On the plus side while we wait.... I officially have committed with LanguageCorps to teach English in Chile starting July 8! The plan is to be there until late December and then (hopefully) head to Brazil in late February if given the Fulbright. Pretty excited for the upcoming weeks!
  19. Waiting to find out if I get it or not before I commit to any sort of classes... don't want to get my hopes up!
  20. Ya... I'm wondering how many people they asked originally and how many were willing to write the extra statement of interest.... or even willing to go to Brazil! I'm sure many wouldn't want to learn Portuguese or may already have made full-time plans... Needless to say, I'll be crushed if I get alternate AGAIN haha
  21. I'm really curious as to how many people are in this round for Brazil... 169 people applied to Brazil in round one, so how many of them are in this round... then take into consideration all of the western hemisphere eta alternates... and then I wonder how many not selected from other countries got in? I'm going to throw out a crazy guess at 150. Even though I'm an alternate to Panama, I'm not sure that gives me any sort of advantage (Panama only had 7 apply for 2 spots...)
  22. Welcome to the board then! What country were you an alternate for?
  23. I'm waiting on Brazil too; I was a Panama alternate. Honestly, if given the option between Panama and Brazil, I'd take Brazil any day now! Ready to learn some Portuguese if accepted. Hoping for some results sooner rather than later, though I'm not checking my inbox every hour yet...
  24. Either way, hope it's good for you in the end! Yes, I was in Panama for 10 days in 2012 on a mission trip. Beautiful country and friendly people!
