Woooooowwwww.... That sucks! I didn't get anything like that... is that a good sign for you though maybe?

I sent email updates and thank you's to mine after I received alternate for Panama. I think that's sufficient, even for accepted positions in some situations (for example, one of my LOR is currently teaching in Spain and will be moving soon, so it's difficult to get a correct address and mail sent on time, etc). Do what you think is best for each one, and I'm sure they will appreciate it! And let's hurry up Brazil! I prefer early June answers to late June decisions! I have to decide where I'm living, be it in Texas or abroad!
-
Same here! Any other lurkers out there? Show yourselves...
-
I sure hope so! I can only imagine getting alternate or not selected to ANOTHER country... I would probably start a rebellion against Fulbright! I'm sure I could find others on here that would join me I did find some free Kindle books on basic Portuguese and got them, but I refuse to actually purchase a book unless I hear back positively... I don't want to get my hopes up! Are there any other Brazil Fulbrighters out there waiting, or am I the only one left here?! Hello?? Bom dia??? (I hope I said that right...)

Trying to finish up some applications today and tomorrow while waiting for Brazil information. Looking at teaching English for six months starting in August with either IES in China, LanguageCorps in Vietnam, or TeachingChile in Chile. Anybody have any experience with any of these organizations or know somebody with some? (Note that I'm seriously hoping Fulbright sends final results to Brazil applicants asap so that I can know if these are my best options. If I don't get Brazil, I can look at one year contracts that are much more attractive due to the long-term options).

They can legally discriminate based on age?! That's a load of crap!

Thanks and my pleasure! Slowly but surely learning some Estonian words as a result

everybody come check the board a couple of times in June to see what happens with the alternates and those waiting on Brazil! Don't leave until then
-
Pretty much... All this board will be left to is hopefully alternates with good news and those of us waiting to hear back from Brazil anytime in June. I remember lurking this page for hours on end in February and March... now I get on it once a day max. I miss all of the happy updates (but not the frustration!).
-
congrats to those that heard positively, and best of luck to those that are alternates or doing something else instead! Does this mean all of the countries have been notified, or are some still not accounted for?

Email in my inbox today had Brazil ETA in the title. To say my heart started pounding would be an understatement. I then opened the email... and it was merely a confirmation that they received my statement of interest and would let us know by the end of June if not sooner. Huge letdown... I thought they might already have the answer! Needless to say, it was tough to focus and get my heart rate back to normal after reading that one...

No update from Brazil, but one thing to celebrate: I graduated today! Be proud of me... I'm 22 and don't know what I'm doing with my life after my summer job! Fulbright, let me know so I can figure out how to contribute to the baby boomer retirement fund with some taxes!

Ok guys, remember the "This is Norway" video? I have some Norwegian friends, and one is competing in a large competition. His Twitter status: "Had fish for lunch again. Never change a winning strategy!" Of course, we like the fish, with a piece of cheese... while wearing skis at birth... and kicking hats off sticks... This is Norway!

Ah, okay. They made alternates from other countries submit an official statement of interest about why they should be recommended for Brazil. I guess your apps already made that case I called in today to try and confirm that my letter was received (I was really paranoid), and she said they were processing over one hundred applications, so I'm wondering how many were included in the new round... hopefully closer to 100 than 200!

True, but maybe a western hemisphere group as a whole could be made (assuming there isn't one already)? I just hope to one day be allowed in the ETA group on Facebook... And it's sad, but I just remembered that ETA is also a terrorist group of Basques in Spain...Did anybody else ever think about that? I can only imagine somebody having a grant in Spain tell somebody that they were an ETA... what looks they might get! Therefore, I hope to be in the English Teaching Assistant group, not the terrorist group! lol
-
This page is quickly dying. I hope we all get bumped (or answers for those waiting still!) quickly so we can join the elite "accepted" groups on FB rather than being alternates or unanswered!
-
They said they will have decisions by early June. Perhaps they will be ahead of time and beat Switzerland though?! In all seriousness though, I'm rooting for you guys plus Latvia, etc. to hurry up and find out! They need to find a way to speed this process up a bit!
-
Officially submitted my Statement of Interest for Brazil! Fingers crossed now
-
Brazil Statements of Interest are due by Monday for the Western Hemisphere alternates. I have two different versions and need to double check with my adviser which one to use. The problem? She's on a plane back to Germany... and she probably won't check her email because it's the weekend. Freaking out way too much for 2:27 a.m!
-
Alternates for ETA positions in the western hemisphere got them as well. Were you rejected in the final decision or in the recommendation in January? I'm trying to get a feel for how many people are applying... haha. Best of luck! Hopefully we'll both end up happily on the other side of the world soon

Thanks! It sounds like an amazing opportunity. I just hope I don't become an alternate to ANOTHER country

The TESOL stuff is pretty much official, as long as I'm willing to commit. Fulbright, however, makes it nice and interesting. Seven minutes after the alternate email for Panama, the region director sent a follow-up email about another opportunity... and then this little jewel popped up: "We are writing to let you know of a special Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship opportunity. The Fulbright Commission in Brazil and the Ministry of Education are partners in expanding the ETA program for the academic year beginning March 2014, adding 90 new grants to the current 30 placements. The program intends to assign at least two Fulbright ETAs to the English language training center at the 59 federal universities throughout the country. Each training center will have two faculty members as coordinators and ten teaching assistants--two Fulbright ETAs and eight Brazilian English language graduate students. These teams will work together to provide support in the teaching of English to university’s students. As an alternate for Panama you are well qualified for this grant program. Therefore, we would like you to consider applying for this exciting opportunity, which is being offered to a limited number of 2013-14 students who applied for ETA grants to countries in the Western Hemisphere Region." As a result, I'm editing my official Statement of Interest for Brazil. Nothing's guaranteed, but hey, World Cup 2014 anybody?!
-
Officially got accepted by LanguageCorps today to get TESOL certified in Costa Rica! That was a nice turnaround (and much faster application process!). However, there is still a good chance for Fulbright as an alternate to Panama or... an ETA in Brazil?!
-
Thanks! I'm not worried; answers will come soon enough I'm sure
-
Congrats!!! Where will you be in Costa Rica? There's a chance I might teach English there starting in August with Language Corps...
